How many pairs of shoes does your DD have (aged 6 or so)?

I can't decide if I'm being tight. She has school shoes, wellies and crocs.

In summer she had plimsolls as well, that she has now grown out of.

We could afford to buy her new shoes but what is the most practical choice - more plimsolls? Lots of her friends have party shoes, she does not. I can't quite bring myself to buy party shoes for her (cost per wear seems ludicrous!)

She doesn't have many clothes either: 1 pair trousers, 1 skirt, 3 dresses, few tops, couple of jumpers/hoodies. Which is adequate in terms of washing esp as she's in school uniform most days!

I hate waste and I'm not extravagant. I like good quality and things to last. I tend to buy at M&S and John Lewis. Everything gets handed down to cousins when it's too small.

But do you think I am being a bit tight and should I buy her more?

If it works for you go with it. I'd find that few an items restrictive but then I love clothes and shoes and we all probably have too many.

Dd1 is 7 and has 4 pairs of boots one brown one black one ugg style and one with studs on plus school shoes trainers pumps/converse type and two pairs of ballet flats one sequinned and one plain leather. She'd have more as she loves shoes too.

Realistically I think one pair of school shoes one casual shoes/boots one trainers wellies and a pair of smart shoes is adequate.

BackforGood · 22/12/2013 19:30

At 6, it would have been wellies, school shoes, slippers, and trainers - sandals in the summer.
They grow too quickly to justify other shoes at that age.

IDugUpADiamond · 22/12/2013 19:31

I would add a pair of leather boots and that's it

fivegolddeblooms · 22/12/2013 19:35

My yr 1 dd has: school shoes, boots, party shoes (cheap bhs ones £5 with a voucher), wellies.

in the summer she had decent sandals and decent canvas shoes rather than boots.

SuckItAndSee · 22/12/2013 19:40

boots, school shoes, wellies, nice trainers, PE pumps. i might get her some party shoes in the sales, as she seems to be growing a little less quickly now after a big growth spurt.

in the summer it's school shoes, canvas pumps, trainers, and sandals.

heymammy · 22/12/2013 19:45

Dd2 is 7 and has wellies, tall leather boots (for both school and weekends), snow boots, trainers for school and trainers for home, ballet pumps, fake crocs with fur inside...I think that's it! Oh and I've got her a pair of high tops for Christmas.

I love shoes though and have no problem buying the kids any number of pairs of shoes Blush. In saying that though, I don't subscribe to this nonsense that kids must only wear £40 clarks shoes or their feet will fall off, so they have a mix of cheap shoes, boden shoes, trainers from sports direct etc.

busylizzie76 · 22/12/2013 19:48

My dd (6) has:
Wellies (important as we live on a farm)
School shoes (last a year as buy big and put insoles in)
Snow boots (for winter weather and snow holidays abroad)
Crocs
White trainers for school (they stay at school all term)
Pink trainers for sport outside of school
Brown leather boots (eBay purchase)

JingleJohnsJulie · 22/12/2013 19:53

Dd 6 has 1 pair of boots. 1 pair of hand me down wellies (which the autocorrect changed to willies!), 1 pair of trainers (needed for school but come home at weekends) and one pair of school shoes however I have relented yesterday and bought the party shoes.

FelineExtraStrongMincePie · 22/12/2013 20:00

School shoes.
Trainers.
Walking boots.
Wellies ( never worn)
Party shoes - too small but not replaced as not been to those kinds of parties...these were worn as normal shoes before trainers were bought.
Snow boots- too big, waiting to be grown into
Pretend crocs left over from summer

starlight1234 · 22/12/2013 20:03

My DS (6)
1 pair of willies
I pr trainers for home
I pr trainers stay in school for PE
pr stompies he rarely wares
a pair of heeleys he got for £3 second hand.
1 pr school shoes.

I think although my son obviously doesn't need party shoes I would say depends on your lifestyle...If she is only going to wear them once a month probably not...I get fed up having to buy my son trainers for PE he only wears for 1/2 hour a week..... Also depends what kind of a child she is most the girls I love to dress up and it is more about feeling pretty/ dressed up If she isn't bothered then carry on if she is desperate maybe shop a little cheaper and buy more..As you know clothes at this age they grow out of quicker than they wear out.

Artandco · 22/12/2013 20:17

Trainers
Smart shoes
Boots
Wellies
Snowboots
Sandals
Crocs
Slippers

Seems quite a lot but they wear all of them ( we spend a lot of time abroad with family in both the sun and snow climates also so wear snowboots, crocs and sandals all year around)

lookdeepintotheparka · 22/12/2013 20:22

My DD only has school shoes and wellies. DD needs the expensive makes as she's hypermobile and really does need good support in her shoes. I simply can't afford to spend £60+ per season for her to have more than one pair!! If I could buy them 'off the shelf' she'd probably have more pairs though.

I don't think you're being tight, better to have a pair that gets worn than several pairs that barely get used before she's grown out of them.

naturelover · 22/12/2013 20:26

Thanks everyone.
I think I'll get her some trainers or plimsolls in a fun colour for the weekends. She has wide feet so I always buy Clarks or Start-rite.
Goodness but it gets expensive!

Somewhat older (9) but...
School shoes
Boots (last year but still fit)
Pink patent dm's
2 x trainers from outlet (Nike?)for home and school
Fab red Kurt Geiger boots from outlet(180 reduced to 19)
DEF NO CROCS AS ARE SHITE AND BANNED
Welles
Converse
H and m twinkly jobs (ballet flats) or maybe Monsoon

Hexbugsmakemeitch · 23/12/2013 07:52

My 6 year old has boots, schoolshoes, trainers and snow boots. She would usually have party shoes too but we're currently struggling to find any that fit as she has narrow feet and seems to have grown past the point of straps. Ballet pumps without straps won't stay on her feet which is a bit annoying.

RobinSparkles · 23/12/2013 07:57

DD1 aged 6 has:

School shoes
Wellies
Lelli Kellys (for at home, parties etc)
and some black ankle boots.

DD2 aged almost 3 has:
Trainers
A pair of doodles from summer that still fit
Wellies
Pair of party shoes that were bought especially for Christmas period. I won't let her wear them often as they don't give much support (they're like ballet shoes).

vikinglights · 23/12/2013 08:04

My 7year old and 5 year old have:-
Snow boots
Lined wellies
Party shoes

Plus some activity specific footwear like ski shoes, ballet shoes and the 7 year old has indoor trainers for school pe

I don't think any of their summer shoes still fit....

Loopytiles · 23/12/2013 09:08

School shoes, leather boots, wellies, trainers, party shoes for parties/xmas.

All from supermarkets except school shoes, which are M&S.

Loopytiles · 23/12/2013 09:09

H&M have party shoes for £7

blackandwhiteandredallover · 23/12/2013 09:16

School shoes, boots, wellies. Her plimsols from the summer are too small but I won't replace them til the spring.

If I were you I'd get her some winter boots rather than more trainers.

Yamyoid · 23/12/2013 09:22

I get Clark's type shoes for school, then ds has cheap version of crocs for summer, wellies and casual shoes for weekends/school holidays. The last pair I got were from Next and seemed to fit well, have lasted and weren't too expensive.
He doesn't have loads of clothes either. About 4 pairs of trousers and 6 tops (plus some extra jumpers not bought by us) because I found any less isn't enough for school holidays.

Kaffiene · 23/12/2013 09:30

Dd (almost 6) has

School shoes
Leather boots
School trainers
Home trainers
Party shoes (Leli Kelly Pumps left over from summer)
Snow boots
Not sure if her wellies still fit
Crocs for after swimming. I buy big in winter to wear with furry bits, they still fit in the summer for beach/ garden etc

Then she has ballet, tap, jazz shoes!!!!

The only ones she could live without are the leather boots but these will be her school shoes next term
