Alternative to a coat for 14 yo ds?

My DS (14) will never put a coat on (unless it's actually snowing) because 'nobody wears one'. What do cool 14 years olds wear to keep warm? I am considering buying him some long thermals for underneath but surely there must be some acceptable outerwear. Any ideas? Pictures appreciated!

i would like this answered too! my ds has gone out in a hoodie Hmm on this frosty morning, am not happy have got him loads of coats but he won't wear them!

Kikithecat · 20/12/2013 09:16

Same here! If I force him to take his coat I know it gets stuffed in his bag 2 minutes later!

I think all the hormones and attitude keeps them warm tbh. Mine went out in a t-shirt, chinos and thin hoodie today (mufti, last day of school)

Underarmour is considered ok to wear, but we are in a very backward rural county so there might be something more acceptable to hipsters.

I guess thermals it is then. Or maybe I'll try to find a really thick, warm-lined hoodie.

My DS (also 14) will sometimes wear a padded gilet, but never to school. He has started to wear a teeshirt or underarmour under his school shirt, though.

It's a well known phenomenon that teens don't wear coats.

Isn't it funny why they do that?

From the age of 13-14 my daughter would not wear a coat. I bought all different ones but she wouldn't wear one.

She is 15 now and wears one of my cast offs as she refused to wear any new ones I offered to buy.

When my son was that age, he went out and returned a few minutes later with a gaggle of teenage girls who all dumped their coats at our house and went back out in the freezing cold!

Madness! Ha ha

I bought my Ds a coat last year which he'll only wear if it's snowing. He wears hoodies. This year, I've bought him a thick woollen hooded cardigan/hoodie that has a thick quilted lining in brushed cotton. Hoping he'll love it.

One of those "Sherpa" (fake sheepskin) lined hoodies? Body warmer? Snow board jacket?

My teen brother will wear anything that's army surplus if that helps.

Hollister have lovely warm fleece lined hoodies. They are expensive, but no more so than a coat.

TantrumsStoleSantasBalloons · 20/12/2013 14:16

My DS wears football skins under his school uniform and a hoodie over the top.

Kikithecat · 20/12/2013 18:18

That's it, have gone for a sherpa lined hoodie. Looks just like what he already wears but should be a lot warmer. Amazon so not too ££!

Southeastastra a couple of years ago, I bought Ds and myself a hoodie with a sort of sheeps wool (but not) lining in the body. Matalan and were £15 each. Really warm and still going strong!
