What's best for chapped lips?

Chapstick isn't healing my chapped lips - not did it prevent them! What's best please? I've found Blistex good in the past but maybe there's something better out there?

Thanks

8hr cream is the business, been using for years and rarely have chapped lips as a result, incl when I go skiing

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 19/12/2013 06:48

Blistex for me, I've tried Carmex (the yellow one) but don't like the taste. Vaselline gives temporary relief (I like the Aloe one) but doesn't heal mine.

CecyHall · 19/12/2013 06:53

Nuxe for me, I put it on at 10 last night and it's still on my lips now and I'm a thumb sucker

It is also matte so you don't have that horrid shiny glossy look around your lips like with Vaseline etc. I think it's a game changed for me.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 19/12/2013 06:54

I second Lansinoh, had some left over from early days with DS2, and it's brilliant for healing chapped lips. In fact they ought to advertise it - Lansinoh - for nips and lips!

Allthingsprettyreturns · 19/12/2013 07:01

Nuxe reve de miel

BecauseIsaidS0 · 19/12/2013 07:14

Burts Bees for me. Nothing else works (and I have chapped lips all the time, winter, summer and everything in between)

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/12/2013 07:20

Byterry rose stuff - its £££ but way better than carmex etc. Vaseline is no good for me and in fact seems to make my lips worse.

angelinajelly · 19/12/2013 09:05

Anything petroleum jelly-based will only provide temporary relief. It can't penetrate the skin, so just sits on top of it rather than actually moisturising. You need to use something beeswax or plant-based. Or I find that glosses work well.

Sakathu · 19/12/2013 11:44

Carmex is amazing, it sloughs off the dead skin rather than just making it lovely and shiny, like Vaseline.

LostInAusNation · 19/12/2013 11:48

Carmex is amazing.
Lasinoh nipple ointment was fab when I was breastfeeding and kept finding my lips dry too so I have to recommend that if you have it. A tad expensive as just a lip balm though unless you can get it on offer and it lasts an age!

MsUumellmahaye · 19/12/2013 11:49

seconding the nipple cream here :)

treaclesoda · 19/12/2013 11:50

I have had great success with a surprisingly cheap option, to my great surprise. Tesco own brand medicated lip balm, this one. I see it says unavailable on the website, but they do have it in my local shop. Its about 90p for two tubes and works far better than most of the expensive stuff I have tried over the years.

trinity0097 · 19/12/2013 12:05

Nivea sooth and protect gets my vote.

MrsMcGregor · 19/12/2013 13:02

Wow! Thanks everyone. I've ordered the Nuxe lip blam - grapefruit and honey, mmmm! Shall come back to this read though if Nuxe isn't for me!

Carmex.

kaumana · 19/12/2013 17:47

Another vote for Carmex and 8 hour cream from me.

Chiggers · 19/12/2013 18:00

I always make sure my face is well moisturised. I rub my finger down the fold where my cheek meets the nose and use that on my lips. My dad's dermatologist told me that the best stuff for your lips is your own natural oils. Works for me and I have a never-ending fresh supply without worrying about trying to find a container in a handbag.

Chiggers · 19/12/2013 18:01

The only other stuff I'd use is coconut oil. Fantastic stuff, but it may not work for everyone.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 19/12/2013 18:02

Vaseline, every time!

Lizzabadger · 19/12/2013 18:02

The Carmex pots are very good and not too expensive.

Rockdoctor · 19/12/2013 18:07

A vote for Burts Bees here. For a cheaper option, the vitamin E spf15 lip balm from the Body Shop. I usually have half a dozen of them on the go at any one time (in pockets, in my handbag, in the car etc.) - it's the only thing I still buy from the Body Shop.

KatyS36 · 19/12/2013 19:44

Lypsil for me, I also have to buy on line.

Much better than the 8 _hour lip balm - to my surprise and disappointment.

ocelot41 · 07/01/2014 20:20

Lansinoh nipple cream- seriously!

Twinklestein · 07/01/2014 20:30

Burts Bees lip balm, carry it with you at all times & apply regularly.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/01/2014 20:42

I have a free option... drink enough water. I find I always get chapped lips when I am slightly dehydrated. Drink loads of water and it happens less.
