Need a new foundation/concealer...L'oreal or something else?

I'm desperately in need of a foundation for the weekend. I normally wear a bb cream but am looking a state at the moment so need something with more coverage but not cloggy on my dry skin. I am probably looking at popping into Boots and spending under £15. I need a concealer too....

I have dry skin and am pale/dark haired. Would L'oreal Nude Magique be a good option? Get the Gloss website gives it top reviews for a budget brand....any other ideas?

I don't use drugstore foundation but I know that Pixiwoo (amazing make up artists) really rate No.7 Instant Radiance foundation and say it's fabulous for dry skin.

They also love Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation.

For a concealer I can personally recommend the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer (the one that comes in a tube with a wand.) It's the mutts nutts. I'm pale too and use the lightest one.

I have dry skin and use Sleek Cosmetics New Skin Revive its silicone based so smoothes over any roughness and can be buildable to whatever coverage you want... I think they sell it in superdrug, but only the larger ones so I get mine online. Also have used Revlon Photoready and Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (I find it works better with a primer on my skin) but the tiny shimmer bits add a glow to dry skin.

I swear by Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer. Loreal Nude Magique, although advertised as a full coverage, because of the consistency being so thin it shows up any dryness, and you also need more than one layer to make it full coverage. That's what I found anyway

Hope I helped in any way!

I have really dry skin (Illamasqua foundation makes me look like a have scales!) and have been using Bourjois Healthy Mix, it's amazing for a budget foundation.

This is brilliant. Thank you. I have noted all this down and will try them all tomorrow!
Good to know L'oreal isn't so good for dry skin. Bourjois sounds like a good bet.

I have dry skin and use illimasqua no 5 or 6 and wouldn't use anything else. I also use Aldi own concealer and think it's just as good as touché éclat.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 18/12/2013 23:58

Feelin What one are you using? I have them all but they all do the same to my skin, just on different levels.

Can you tell me what you put on/do to your skin before you use the foundation/how you put it on?

Sorry for being so nosey, I've spent a shitload on their foundations as they colour match my skin perfectly and I'm desperate for them to work!

I have dry skin and was using Laura Mercier Silk Creme. Heard good things about Rimmel's Wake Me Up foundation so bought it when it was on offer. It is gorgeous, radiant, and light on my skin. Great for really dry patches: no clogs, no scales. Even the Silk Creme sat awkwardly on my pores after a few hours but this doesn't. It has cool (pink) undertones which is fantastic and rarer in cheap foundations. It lasts the whole day too. I saw it on offer in Asda for £5 a few days ago.

Schro I have Illamasqua Skin Base and think it's wonderful for dry skin.

The secret is in preparing my face. I use a very nourishing moisturiser and then Illamasqua Hydra Veil primer before applying the foundation.

It's one of the few products that does pale pink toned shades!

feelinlucky · 19/12/2013 09:01

Schro, I was going to respond the same as bunny. It's all about the prep work. I use bravura glycolic acid a few times a year for a good exfoliation. I use Laura mercer radiance primer but honestly any primer will likely do the job. I find illimasqua the best foundation. It gives great coverage and makes my skin look radiant. I'm a big advocate of eating right, plenty of water and exercise to make sure the inside is as good as the out :)

I would also recommend applying your chosen foundation with Real Techniques foundation Stippling brush. Gives a wonderful airbrushed finish - best makeup brushes I've ever used.
Can get them in Superdrug and Boots I think.

I have just purchased Art Deco camouflage cream. It's only about £9 and oh my word it is amazing. Best concealer ever. Debenhams have it on offer at the moment I think.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 20/12/2013 00:16

Bunny I exfoliate (it doesn't go on so bad if I exfoliate with a pot scourer!) moisturise and have tried tons of different primers, it hates my skin. :( Such a lovely colour too.

Feelin I use NeoStrata Glycolic Acid smoothing cream as well. :/ Weirdly, with no make up on, my skin doesn't look that dry tbh.

I just want to love this foundation. I have skin base, light and rich liquid! They're all fab on some bits and awful on others. Hmm

It even goes on fine on DP's skin (we mixed the rich liquid with blue to go over his prosthetics one year at halloween).
