Tell me what can be done about jowls.

I'm 37 and keep catching sight of myself in the mirror, where there is a hint of jowl. What can be done about this? I wouldn't mind crow's feet, lines round my mouth, but jowls are a step too far.
Is it a face lift or nothing?! Surely I don't have to have this yet? I will admit, I had a baby last year and have completely neglected by self ever since, whereas prior to that, I was v well groomed.
What can I do?

I just happened to be googling the same topic myself this evening! I too am 37 and have noticed a bit of definate jowliness. Have been on Youtube and there are some facial exercises you can do :

try this one for starters From my googling I also gleaned that some supplements may be benficial like collagen and fish oils. I used to take a daily supplement but stopped a few months ago and I think my jowliness has got worse since then. I think giving up or massively reducing your sugar intake would be helpful. I did a drastic anti candida diet about 18 months ago and it made a huge difference to the firmness of my skin. Unfortunately I don't have the will power to stay off the chocolate Grin

Thanks v much for your reply. The sugar thing is v interesting - I have main lined chocolate ever since dd was born. She is a truly terrible sleep still at 18 months and I just top up with chocolate to keep going, plus am still breastfeeding, although desperate to stop, when I hope to go on the Harcombe diet. Which anti candida one did you try? Coincidentally I'm seeing the GP today as I think both dd and I may have thrush.
I take the Zita West supplements, but am about to change to Pharmanex. I just cut my hair from long to a bob and it has not had the desired effect at all - jowls as well and I am looking distinctly mumsy. Losing the extra two stone I've retained since dd would also help matters, and here we are, full circle, back to the chocolate habit.....

Cheek fillers... They lift the whole face.

CACI (non surgical facelift) its a facial with electric current involved Smile I think you need a course of say 10 then about once a month but is a bit £££ but will improve jowliness

Nancery · 17/12/2013 15:20

I have a hint of jowels too!
But, alas , no £££'s to spend on facials. Or willpower for no choc (never used to bother before DS.)
Bugger.
Candle lighting perhaps...?

I have a device called Oralift. It lifts the face. It's not specifically for jowls but helps. I'd definitely do some exercises too. Plenty on YouTube.

burnishedsilver · 17/12/2013 17:07

My jowls only appear when I gain weight.

The worst thing you can do is stare down at a screen. Phones and other touchscreen gadgets are the worst. Especially if you use then a lot. After a while you see the effects under the chin.

Slavetominidictator · 17/12/2013 17:27

Thanks v much for all suggestions. Think my first tactics will be giving up sugar and losing weight, which I need to do anyway for general earth reasons, but hopefully will benefit my vanity too!

There's also a facial exercise woman, Tina Richards - I keep meaning to see if her stuff (she has gadgets like the Tua Viso) is any good.

When DC3 is out I want to lose all the baby weight, get back on Imedeen - and sort out the jowls! So let us know how you get on..,
