Yes you can. You can be referred to a dermatologist on NHS
Rosacea is classed as a chronic skin condition. No one is really sure what causes it.
Antibiotics, certain types anyway, help reduce inflammation in your body which can temporarily halt the rosacea. Downsides are you need to be on them for months at a time. And eventually you'll develop resistance to them and they will no longer work for your rosacea.
I've used several antibiotics. Two no longer have any effect on my rosacea. Tetracycline worked the first time. The second time very little and I then developed a very bad reaction to it about a month into the second course. It was terrifying and very painful. I was saved by an out of hours doctor who was Brazillian Tetrasyal (limacycline) is banned across most of the world because of this reaction. It came on almost like a migraine and violent vomiting. It caused my blood pressure to sky rocket. It was lucky I didn't confuse the symptoms with a migraines that I suffer from because taking sumatriptan medication with this reaction can kill you.
So now there is nowhere left to go in terms of medication for me.
Not saying you'll have a bad reaction. But don't underestimate antibiotics. And that eventually they will stop working for you anyway.
I've tried topical creams such as various topical antibiotics and Finacea. Finacea actually does sort out the redness a little and completely smoothes your skin. But it stings like buggery to apply and sting for a while after. You can help this by applying moisturiser first. Still not enough results for the pain.
The most famous one is metro cream. Did nothing for me at all. Sadly I wished that worked as it had no stinging when applied. It may work for you so don't be afraid to try it. Loads of people rate it.
So I get excited when I find something which improves things a little.
I no longer use face washes but clean my face with oil. Usually almond or rice bran oil. It works really well and it keeps my skin a lot calmer.
I also avoid make up with silicones (dimethecone). That stuff does nasty things to my face and its almost everything.
Reviewing ingredients you apply to your face can really help. You'd be surprised at what lurks in make up generally. Most contain some form
Of alcohol very bad.
