Fed up with the "moustache"

Can anyone recommend a laser clinic in Central or north London? I am sick and tired of the pain and effort involved in waxing or threading my upper lip. I am prepared to pay for laser treatment but I am worried about clinics that do not deliver or, even worse, could damage my skin. Can anyone recommend a clinic that they have actually tried and have been happy with? I have fair skin and dark hair, so I think I should not be a very challenging "case". Thanks a lot!

I did my underams and bikini line at Oxygene (in Crouch End, now in Muswell Hill) and was very happy with them.

Thank you, BecauseIsaidS0. How many sessions did you have? Did it hurt?

I've had a few areas zapped at Harley medical group. Similar colouring to you and the results have been great.

Kefybaby · 17/12/2013 08:29

Thanks a lot, eurochick! I checked out their website and they seem to take safety and effectiveness quite seriously, which is encouraging. How many sessions did you need? Is the package of 4 sufficient?

I think I had about 8 or 9. The first two were really painful, particularly on the bikini line (ouch ouch ouch), then it gets much easier as you have less and less hair.

Kefybaby · 17/12/2013 13:59

8 or 9?! Shock Ouch!

It depends on the area. I had 3 or 4 on some areas and 5 or 6 on others. I can't remember exactly as it was a long time ago - the hair has for the most part stayed away (just a small amount of regrowth that can be sorted out by a top up treatment if I ever get around to it!).

Lurking....fed up with the hairs on my chinny-chin-chin!

Kefybaby · 17/12/2013 20:30

I might go for a package of 4 sessions and see how it goes, then. I wish I had done this 15 years ago!

The number of sessions really depends on how hairy you are. I would imagine your moustache is not as bad as my underarms were! Xmas Wink

Very dark hair works best for laser treatment :) It's effectiveness is linked to the pigmentation in your hair.
I'm currently being treated for my lip and chin.

I recommend electrolysis at "Stress Exchange" in London Bridge, but insist in having Alison do it. The other lady is a bit rougher. I have had 3 sessions so far and it is working well.

Sleepyhoglet · 19/12/2013 23:08

Ooooh I want this done but don't live near London Hmm I assume other places do it?

MillyMollyMama · 20/12/2013 01:13

Loads of places do it. There are various methods of hair removal, laser and pulsed light I think. I have had both. Look for a professional clinic. It was really no big deal and is definitely worth doing. A tiny amount of discomfort but lots of gain.

holidaysarenice · 20/12/2013 01:16

Do they come out with the first treatment and then some regrow which are got with subsequent treatments? Or do they get zapped and then I would have them or have to get them waxed until the next treatment?

Basically am I hairy inbetween?

Kefybaby · 20/12/2013 16:12

Solde, isn't electrolysis more painful than laser treatment?

holidaysarenice, the IPL kills the hairs that are at a certain stage of their lifecycle - not all of them are at the same stage at the same time. You shouldn't wax in between sessions, only shave, because if you wax you rip off the root which is what the laser aims for to kill.

Saurus72 · 21/12/2013 00:11

I had LHR removal at a Skin clinic, and they were good (I went to Oxfordshire, but there are clinics throughout the country). My only regret was nit having had it done earlier - it has changed my life and stopped a lot of self consciousness. I am very pale and the hairs were dark. They initially tried to sell me a package of 6 sessions, but I ended up not going fir that and only needed 4 (and probably could have got away with 3). Highly recommended.

You can't pluck/wax in between treatments, but you can use immac or shave. No getting around that, as Because says, it's about the cycle of hair growth. Totally worth it though. Also, you may see big results v quickly: I had about 50% reduction in hair growth parter the first treatment.

Saurus72 · 21/12/2013 00:12

Parter???? After

joanofarchitrave · 21/12/2013 00:15

In my experience, both hurt, but I haven't had much experience of laser as if it was going to hurt just as much, I didn't want to pay what used to be about 1000% more. 'An elastic band pinging' my foot.
