I use a henna and indigo mix after reading about it on here. I started using the Lush blocks (caca brun) but now I mix my own.

I used Olia this week and was impressed. Seemed far kinder to my scalp and didn't stink.

Loonytoonie · 15/12/2013 07:47

Olia - that's the one. Does it lighten?

Another vote for lush henna here - my hair's never been shinier and I haven't had a trim in 11 months and it still looks in good condition! I use caca rouge on light brown/grey hair for a deep reddish brown. It does need to stay on 4 hours though.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 15/12/2013 07:58

I prefer Casting.

It is only semi permanent mind but my hairdresser said the difference in condition.after switching from nice n easy was so much better. Smile

How do you use that henna? I've noticed some grey hair on my head ... and if current stresses in my life don't turn me grey, gd knows what will.

dizhin79 · 15/12/2013 08:05

my pal uses www.hennacat.co.uk for exactly that reason, she turned grey at 28 so has experimented with all and sundry I in terms of dye etc... This hens page she uses as they import god quality and have how to's etc.

Hth xx

dizhin79 · 15/12/2013 08:06

doh! www.hennacat.com she's on Facebook too

The lush stuff - use a third or half a block, depending on hair length/thickness and mix with hot water in a Bain Marie until its the consistency of double cream - it takes a while and you have to poke it with a wooden spoon quite a lot. Apply while its hand hot to your hair (I stand naked in the bath to do this, it's fiendishly messy! Then once it's all on wrap your hair in cling film then a towel (it will stain so use an old one) and keep it on for 4 hours. I get going on it before I've cleaned my face in the morning as its less likely to stain your skin. To rinse, wash out some with shower head then smother your hair in loads of cheap conditioner and rinse again. Keep rinsing till it's out. Your hair will smell henna-y for a few days, some people aren't keen. I also avoid white pillowcases for a few days as it takes a couple of washes to get it all out completely.

Sounds like a nightmare when I type it all out but the compliments afterwards are worth the hassle! The colour lasts really well and you don't get that lightened straw like effect that nice an easy always left me with 3 weeks post-dye.

I don't like Olia but find Nice and Easy really leaves my hair soft and shiny

Interestingly, I really didn't like Nice and Easy as it didn't feel comfortable on my scalp. I wasn't overly impressed with the final results.

Strange :o

No idea if any of the lighten hair as I only dye shades that are similar to my natural colour.

Henna for me does colour the greys, but not the same colour as the rest of the hair. It makes them look a bit like highlights, and I never liked the block colour you get from a dye. Plus, they never seem so obvious when it starts to grow out- dark hair and grey roots is not a good look.

I'm experimenting today with cassia Obovata mixed with a little henna and indigo. The cassia is supposed to dye the white hairs yellow, so I'm hoping for a really light brown on the greys.

Hair colours always made my scalp burn a bit, so I always felt I was one dye job away from a major reaction!

BetsyJingleBells · 15/12/2013 20:32

Same here earslaps I always thought I'd be washing all my hair down the plughole along with the dye. Was very pleased to 'discover' henna!

I'm a red devotee so never felt the need to mix it up with indigo but I do love the brighter streaks I get from the hennaed greys. I agree that the roots are much less obvious with henna too.

Hair colours always made my scalp burn a bit

Me too, I definitely knew there was colour on it IYSWIM. The Olia was completely different - could have been just water for all the feeling I got from it. Very impressed. and no smell!

sewingandcakes · 16/12/2013 07:26

I have used Lush Henna in the past too; a bit messy but so much better for my hair.

JoanRanger · 16/12/2013 08:23

Logona ready mixed cream dyes. They're made with henna, indigo, walnut etc so no nasty chemicals, but also much easier to apply than henna and in a range of shades.
