Going from blonde to copper?

JemimaPuddle · 13/12/2013 15:48

I have very fine straight dark blonde hair with highlights, i cant afford to keep having highlights so im going to have to go back to dying it myself.

I've had it a chocolate brown before and was going to do that again but really fancy a copper colour.
Has anyone done this? Any tips or advice?

Um don't.

I tried with my blonde highlighted hair to go coppery red (my hair has copper tones naturally so it wasn't odd) and it went more orange. Pretty much carrot orange.

Three times. All different dyes.

Oh no :(
I simply can't keep up with salon highlights & was hoping to do it at home. Will have to be chocolate brown then :)
Thanks

no don't go chocolate! i have highlights and want copper too! like \link{https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/378800000328256626/b930595667a7094d274d9ce164825172.jpeg\catherine huntley} from qvc, i imagine it's a toner though on top of highlights

Do it! it'll be bright the first time you do it because you'll be putting it on top of blond. Maybe go for a darker copper for the first go. Just be aware that coopers and red tones are quite stubborn to get out if you decided to go back blond at a later date. Does you salon do trainee days? you'll be getting a proper salon colour at a fraction of the usual price.

I did this a few times, I have a lot of ginger strawberry tones in my blonde hair. First time proper full in copper knob - no-one noticed!! Everyone just thought it was my hair colour Shock went darker which looked terrible with skin tone. Stuck to highlights fir last 18 years Grin

I love Catherine Huntley's colour South

No training days at my salon unfortunately but tbh I can't really justify what that would cost either :(

So I need an auburn rather than copper for my first go do you think er1507?

Carrielou I've been blonde all my life (briefly brown for 6 months or so) and started highlighting it when it got to a mousey colour.

how about a henna dye instead? there are variations in colour and not so chemically. checkout [www.hennacat.co.uk]] my white haired friend uses one of her blends and comes out a beautiful colour

dizhin79 · 14/12/2013 09:58

shall try. again. www.hennacat.co.uk my pal contacted her and asked her for advice about best route to go down

JemimaPuddle · 14/12/2013 12:42

Thanks diz I'll have a look at that.

I was in the same position with my hair about two months ago. I had the hairdresser put my own colour through to break up the highlights and tone it down dramatically and allow me to grow some length, without highlighter damage.

At first it felt too dark as it'd been 25 years since I'd seen "me". Now, I love it. It's cost me nothing since and it's very, very shiny in a way it never was with highlights.

It's an option. It'll cost you to get it done but then, if you DIY and it all goes wrong, it'll cost you to put it right again!
