Help me choose a Lindy Bop dress for February wedding

Dh is best man at a wedding in February. :)

I want a brilliant dress as the last wedding I went to with this group of friends was mine - 7 years ago and pre dc!

I think I'd like something 1950s style with a full skirt. I've narrowed it down to

Audrey Hepburn style

And a similar prom dress

My budget isn't massive as I will also have to buy shoes and wrap/ jacket/ extra layer etc.

What do you think? Confused

I'm 5 foot 2, size 10, with smallish boobs and a short pixie crop hair.

Eh?

VV, here.

Suddengeekgirl · 12/12/2013 21:10

Budget is tight - basically as low as possible. I'm going to need shoes, cover up and possibly a bag too. Confused
I have pinched my sister's collection of fascinators so if I decide I want one at least that's not a cost! :)

Will have a look at voodoo vixen too.

Hows about this? Don't suppose you're a 4 shoe are you? It'd be great with these and navy opaques.

Bless you for looking mrslettuce :)

I'm really not keen on bodycon styles/ shapes. Blame the 2x c sections! :)

Ach, never mind. Owt here?

This is a better shape then - comes across quite 40's in cut but I'm not sure you'll like the print (I do).

marmite 60's-ish tunic dress

really rather authentic-50's-looking print sleeveless, unfortunately, so there's the cost of a cover up too.

hardly exciting but workable with red or yellow acessories

40's feel again, good bargain the black floral is nce too but you'd need to find the turquoise to go with it, would be too funereal otherwise. Not sure if there's much about ATM. The plain version is fab but more expensive

Plain but lovely. over budget?

(a lot of these look short but the models are, of course, very tall)

I had more compliments last night in my Lindy Bop than I've ever had before.

And I felt really, really pretty in it. Smile

Suddengeekgirl · 14/12/2013 18:10

Oh that's fab! :)

I'm also quite drawn to this chiffon one

I can't decide between that and the Audrey Hepburn one. Confused

Is the authentic lindy hop outfit more 1940's than 50's?
I thought it was the music that originated during the war and came from America, lots of swirly skirt type things and pumps/brogue type shoes.

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 14/12/2013 18:27

Just seen the last link and the red one is beautiful

Suddengeekgirl · 14/12/2013 18:31

morethan - nothing to do with the dancing as far as I'm concerned -mores the pity! I just like that style of dress. :)

Red one is lovely, but may be too long on me. Confused

How short / long they fall has a lot to do with how full your petticoat is TBH. What sort do you have?

Suddengeekgirl · 15/12/2013 13:32

I don't have one yet.
I showed dh last night and he said the red one. Think I'm going to go for it as it is a bit more special looking - so could work for SIL's wedding in the summer too.
