Angora

Angora knitwear, so soft and snugly.

Sadly, it may come from China where angora rabbits are kept in dire conditions and the hair is wrenched from their skin. If shorn they are treated just as badly.

H&m have told China factories they will not be using them and will not be sourcing any more angora products. They will continue to sell items that are already in stores.

I can't tell anyone what to so, but the rabbits are treated so barbarically that I hope it makes you think about how your angora item of clothing was made.

I won't do links as the video and still pictures are horrific. I won't watch the video as I don't want the images and sounds of rabbits screaming in agony in mind. My description is horrific enough, so google at your peril.

I have just bought 2 angora jumpers from Zara. I was unaware of this issue when I bought them. Zara are refusing to divulge where they source their angora which to me suggests it comes from China where 90% of angora comes from and where the mistreatment of the rabbits was discovered.

I'll be returning these items to Zara. I couldn't wear them without thinking of the suffering behind them.

Yes I saw this the other day on here too. I'm not buying angora any more.

MissScatterbrain · 12/12/2013 09:08

Ditto Sad

I sa this on MN the other day and it shocked me.

I had no idea.

I won't buy angora again. Ever.

Well done H&M for taking a stance.

I saw this on here a few weeks ago. There seems to be loads of angora about at the moment - not sure if it's in fashion or if I am noticing it more because I heard about the rabbit cruelty. I tend to avoid it anyway as it covers everything in fluff!

Very decent of you Happygirlnow.

Must admit I was totally naive about how they got the fur and thought it was collected by the rabbits moulting and the fur brushed out!

It's so sickening that they are treated this way.

I saw this on MN too and can't get the story out of my head!
I have been doing my Christmas shopping and have skipped over anything with angora. I'll be telling everyone I know too. Poor bunnies Hmm

I had heard about this a few weeks ago and checked a full rail of lovely jumpers in TK Maxx last week and all contained angora and were made in China so I didn't buy one. However, I only watched the beginning of the video yesterday, it is absolutely and totally horrific. Felt sick ever since. Definitely won't be buying angora again.

I thought this was baby names & saw Angora - nice Grin

SundaySimmons Brushing is how the hair should be collected and if it is done like this (and the rabbits are well cared for) then there isn't necessarily a welfare issue. However if you want to make a jumper with hair collected by brushing your pet angora rabbit then it will take a very long time to collect enough!

I only recently found out that most angora comes from China and the horrific treatment of the rabbits- will definitely avoid in future. Possibly an even worse welfare problem than buying fur skins.
