Easy and inexpensive skincare routine

I really need to sort myself out and get a good skincare routine
Currently I use a scrub every few days and put a bit of moisturiser on most days but I've got combination skin and when I am putting moisturiser on I'm getting a spotty t-zone
I'm in my late 20's but I need something quick as otherwise I won't stick to it and budget is not huge
What do you think is the way forward for me?

I should say I'm currently using garnier moisture match (yellow one for normal skin)
I can't use simple moisturiser as that brings me out in mega spots and Nivea is too heavy

The superdrug VitE stuff is good and isn't expensive. I'd suggest starting with the hot cloth cleanser and the moisturiser. You can add in other things like the scrub and face mask if it works for your skin.

chanie44 · 11/12/2013 14:50

I have combination skin and found thr Superdrug vitamin e hot cloth cleanser too drying on my skin. I use the Superdrug naturally radiant range - the hot cloth cleanser and moisturiser. It's currently half price, £2.99 for the cleanser and moisturiser.

I've recently switched to the Boots Botanics range - it's on special again at the moment.

It's simple, but good quality - I was initially looking for a day cream without SPF and they do one which is how I started using it. I'm loving it.

Allthingsprettyreturns · 11/12/2013 17:22

Boots basic facial wash in the green or blue packaging. In fact this range has quite a few products in that are cheap
Boots Botanics moisturiser-i use the version with SPF

goodasitgets · 11/12/2013 18:19

I use a fair few products but nothing expensive and my skin is loving it!
Spotty, combination skin
First cleanse with Occo wax balm (TK Maxx) remove with hot flannel
Second cleanse Occo milk cleanser
Exfoliating toner
Hydrating toner
Amphora aromatics echinacea moisturiser
Takes me (I timed it!) 4 minutes

Am is just milk cleanser, hydrating toner and moisturiser

These are great suggestions thank you, I guess it's a bit trial and error as to what will work for me but glad I have see ideas instead of standing in boots for ages wondering which to buy out of the hundreds of products on offer!

If you're suffering with spots I'd suggest going for non-comedogenic products. This doesn't have to be expensive or complicated.

How about a basic cleanser from Avene or La Roche Posay, removed with a flannel soaked in warm water to clean your face, and then a moisturising/hydrating product with some AHA's and BHA's to keep your pores clear. Vichy Normaderm Global Hydrating Care is not expensive and has great levels of active ingredients.

That's just two products and should take you about two minutes.

Stop using the scrub!!! It will irritate your skin and is too harsh.

Use the Avene cleanser (someone on here recommended it to me) on dry skin. Massage in. Wash off with a flannel and warm water. Use a new flannel every day. You can get them for about 15p in wilkinson or 4 for £2 in Primarni.

Then use an exfoliating toner. I have a Ren one. Clarissa do one too.

(If you can afford it - Then hydrating toner. Then vitamin C serum if you can afford it [ bodyshop have one and a 50% off voucher code until Sunday ) )

Then moisturise with an spf moisturiser.

If you can save up the Clinic take off the day cleanser is good too for when you have been wearing more make up. The camomile oil cleanser from bodyshop is good too, again 50% off.

Google Caroline Hirons. She is a skincare person and has cheat sheets for good skin care routines. On the right of the web page I think.

Don't think you need to avoid oily stuff if you have oily skin. You don't. If you use drying products your skin will produce more oil to compensate.

merryxmasyafilthyanimal · 11/12/2013 23:07

Oh and avoid foaming face wash things - they will dry and are rubbish.

merryxmasyafilthyanimal · 11/12/2013 23:09

*Clarins not Clarissa Confused

merryxmasyafilthyanimal · 11/12/2013 23:15

I forgot eye cream

Fuckitthatlldo - it was you who recommended Avene! Am using it in the mornings and really like it, so thanks! Got the la Roche Posay eye make up remover too. Smile

I use superdrug hot cloth cleanser, either the green herbal one or the vitamin e, both are great. They dissolve mascara and eyeliner, I only use a tiny squeeze, about half an inch if that, it works better the less you use, as it properly sinks in and dissolves your make up whereas if you use too much it sits on your face

I bought spare muslins from ebay and have a drawer full.

Finish with Aldi facial oil, just 3-4 drops is enough for your whole face.

This really is the best routine.
I have combi skin and the oil does not make my skin oily, it just sinks in and leaves skin soft.

Its cheap too which is a bonus.

LittleBabyPigsus · 12/12/2013 12:16

Aloe vera gel (can get it cheaply from Holland & Barretts for a huge tube although my smaller tube was a lucky find in Poundworld) makes a great moisturiser for oily areas and also a fab primer for all over your face. It makes my skin SO smooth and doesn't bobble under makeup like a silicone-based primer will.

Superdrug's Vitamin E range is great, you can use the eye makeup remover lotion as a hot cloth cleanser - it doesn't come with a muslin but you get much more than the actual hot cloth cleanser! Just use a cheapo flannel soaked in hot water.

Superdrug's slightly fancier B. range has an anti-ageing range for your 20s and 30s - maybe try the night serum at night if the day cream is too oily?

Body Shop seaweed skincare is a bit pricier but they do a good mattifying moisturiser. The Body Shop is a good option because they always have testers so you can try stuff out, and sell travel sizes.

Sunshineonsea · 12/12/2013 13:30

These are great thank you, I've bought some cleanser, eye cream and day cream from the naturally radiant range in superdrug, I'll see how I go with that, superdrug had loads of offers on too so got a few bargains
