I have straight hair, thick heavy and no layers, long. would like a soft curl - the curling isn't the problem, its keeping it curly for more than 2 hours.

I don't use products on my hair as the norm, so I literally have no idea what i'm looking for

I have used mousse in the past - but it looks like cardboard when dry

what product am I looking for?

I have naturally curly hair which is also thick and long. When I got married I wanted'nice' curls (as opposed to my usual fingers in socket look). The only thing that worked for me was ghd curling it. They lasted all day and night to my surprise. Hairdresser did mine but there's umpteen tutorial videos on YouTube if you're up to the challenge.

I don't have any curling irons /rollers making the curl isn't a problem
Keeping the curl is - what product to buy?

I get a soft curl by twisting my hair into a bun - adding mousse before

but alas, it falls flat with stiff kink.

I have looked at you tube( I am that desperate) , and there is no way those women go out and keep a culr with protective heat spray and a slight spray of elnette - I refuse to believe it!

Have you tried blasting the bun with a hot hairdryer to set the curl? There's no product I know of (and believe me I've tried a lot) but someone else will hopefully come along soon with some ideas. I know some people swear by setting lotion but I always find I can't get the dilution right and end up with scary, crispy curls. Good luck!

thank you so much,

I bought some setting lotion then was too frightened to use it :)

heat to bun - check.

will peruse superdrug at lunchtime

I have used fizz control cream (from asda) which seems to keep it wavy and also a "twisted sista" which keeps the curl but can look a bit sticky if over used.

fizz control? is that for curly hair?

my hair is straight and needs to be curly

I have similar hair and use this this wonder stuff it's £2 in savers / body care type places. It's bloody brilliant stuff! It does literally glue your curls though so I tend to losen mine a bit and then blast! It's the only spray I've found that genuinely keeps a style in place.

custardo · 11/12/2013 10:28

thanks COOEEE I buy that stuff for my son, didn't know they had a spray

mumsnet is wonderful

I don't think I'd have tried it on package alone. Had hair done for a wedding and hairdresser used it on whole party (all with hair that refuses to conform) and we've all never stopped using it!
