Looking stylish at home and do you have "good" clothes and slob clothes?

Am starting to feel a bit, um, frumpy when at home but i need to keep warm and want to be stylish!!

Pregnant, 19.5 weeks but I suppose that's a non issue as I have wondered what I can do to look better at home.

Im currently not employed and am looking after our toddler. I go out to play groups, meet friends and do the usual errands, collecting from childminder.

My house is cool, even in summer due to poor light and aspect (?) the house doesnt really stay warm for long after heat has gone off even though insulated.

I have problems with drying clothes easily and so heavy wool fabrics are out of the question. I do layer like mad already but still feel cold unless Im not constantly moving about.

I have slippers but they need washing/drying regularly and I find this a pain so I have some bright/garish ppatterned, slightly naff slipper socks which I can bung in the wash and dry quickly!

I look nice when Im out and about (i think): skinny jeans, drapey jersey/ nice statement jewellery/ fine jewellery, nice quality floppy leather boots/ bags.

When i get home to do the cooking and general household things/ playing with toddler, I am freezing!! I stick on a fleece over what Im wearing and remove the nice cardigan I did wear earlier as i dont want to get it ruined. ditto jewellery.

Any alternatives to the fleeces that dry quickly?

Any tips on how to feel a bit more stylish at home?

if you are a sahm/p, do have "tiers" of clothes: at home/ daily out and about clothes/ good clothes?

I know this thread seems so trivial but would like to hear what other stay at home mums/parents do as I feel grim!!

thanks

I live in a warm house so prob wear slightly less than you but I generally wear skinny jeans, vest top, jumper socks and slippers.

Pretty much the same for when I go out but dress it up with styled hair/ make up/ jewellery/ nice boots and bag.

I much prefer wearing jumpers in the winter than trying to find something nice to wear when its hot, I find summer a lot harder to dress for.

Hi op. I tend to wear black or navy jersey bottoms around the house in the evenings if not going out. I would really recommend new look for maternity bottoms. They are cheaper and better than a lot of places.

I normally work full time and when l do i Wear smart trousers and a blouse cardi, then smart casual at weekends. Pretty blouse jeans

Now on maternity leave I don't bother with smart stuff. I layer up tshirts and boyfriend cardis. If I were you (I don't get that cold) I would get thermal long sleeve tops and still wear cardis but nice soft ones.

These are the bottoms I have. They are great

They are not exactly stylish but they have been great. So comfy. I wear dh thick jumpers with them. Cold you invest in a heated drier ?

Good luck with pregancy! X

I wear the same clothes at home as when I am out (am SAHM), but if you had a snood and a cashmere cardi, that might be a nice way to keep warm?

Re the washing, how about a dehumidifier to help dry things? I couldn't be without ours - washing gets stale and nasty if left to dry naturally at our place. I park a 10L capacity dehumidifier next to the airer and that solves my problem (I can't bear washing drying all over the place, so just use 1 airer w dehumidifier and the dryer)

to answer your question, yes I do have stylish and slob. it is a bit of a dilemma for me as well.

I am losing weight rapidly breastfeeding 2 and running around after a toddler with a newborn. our house is also freezing.

I wear one pair of jeans that fit when I go out and tracksuit type bottoms at home. sometimes I go out in them but feel like scruffy mcscrufferson.

but I CBA to change my clothes several times a day, I need to preserve my one pair of jeans and they are not as comfy as stretchy trousers (and I do a lot of diy). I do have a couple of dresses too but they are not great for toddler groups.

at home I virtually always wear a fleecy gilet on top for warmth.

I am no help, just sharing the problem and signing in for others views.

I so know what you mean, TKKW.
I live in an ancient, draughty old stone house & sometimes think I wear more at home than outside! Some days it actually feels warmer when I go outside, especially in summer.
I have fleeces & big old jumpers I put on over whatever I'm wearing, not very stylish but better than freezing. I have sheepskin slippers, bliss!
I have a bit of an advantage having four dogs who like to snuggle Grin

Thanks! Good to know others have this dilemma.

Hadnt thought about thermals actually.

Does anyone know how big/small m & s thermals fit?

Under layers are definitely the answer. I wear exactly the same things at home or at work (bit lower cut for home maybe, but no difference in terms of smartness). As I like dresses with cardigans etc I have invested in lots of slips which are warmer than vests as they have a skirt too. I also think they look quite nice. When it gets colder I will probably layer silk thermals over the top (got from ocado half price).
