Curly Girl - products

GoodnessKnows · 09/12/2013 06:37

I've naturally curly, frizzy, coarse, dry hair. I've had a straightening treatment similar to Brazilian but more gentle. As it begins to wear off, I'd like to 'go curly' again but with the Curly Girl method.
My question is:
What are the best products to use?
Ooh - and Where can I buy them?
I've spent (wasted) soooo much money on the dream product over the years.

Body shop rainforest moisturising shampoo, conditioner and hair butter is what I use on DDs ringlets. It is ok for curly girl as no sulphites / cones etc. I think there are 50% off codes at the mo.

I use the Naked conditioners, Boots sell them I think they are £4ish.

Ooh. Sounds good. Thank you. Anything that they particularly recommend in the book?

I don't think the book recommends, they just tell you what ingredients are banned. There are good lists of suitable products on the curly girl forums though. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll try to find my link.

There is a website called British Curlies. If you go into the forums they have a list of all CG products available in the UK and also an online shop. Tresemme Naturals shampoo and conditioner is CG. Also Boots Pink Curl Creme, umber to Gianni curl friends gel and frizz ease mousse. I tried going CG but made my hair feel disgusting just co washing so I use the Tresemme naturals shampoo and CG styling products. Still makes a big difference Grin

Also with ingredients I think the gist of it is - anything that ends in cone or conal is bad

Really helpful. Thank you. I'm off to google ;)

On Amazon you can buy the Devacurl products and specifically designed for curly hair. They aren't cheap but you can get a trial size pack to see how you get in with them.

Also Bumble and Bumble do a leave in conditioner without silicones. Is lovely but again, not cheap!

dottypyjamas · 12/12/2013 12:51

Can anyone recommend a heat protector spray without silicone etc?

Patilla · 16/12/2013 10:57

It's mousse that I miss by doing CG.

I have a love/hate issue with CG - it does make my hair muh curvier but the products I've used (umberto gianni and boots pink curl Creme) just don't hold the curls well for the next day.

I miss mousse.

FabricQueen · 16/12/2013 16:10

I don't use products on my hair, just wash it and sometimes condition. I have no idea if it is CG friendly, but I swear by Avedas be Curly shampoo, it is amazing and makes my hair lovely and soft and bouncy. It's a bit pricey, although I think LookFantastic are your best bet as they have some 15% off codes at the moment which brings down the cost a bit. You don't need loads either so it lasts a while.

I use the dr organics conditioner available in Holland and Barratt. They are all suitable, but the coconut one is a bit thicker so lasts longer so i use that. Then i use 'dirty' hair creme from lush, i thought the boots curl creme that people rave about made my hair too crispy and i didn't like it.

agirlcalledsandoz · 18/12/2013 21:52

Patilla - Frizz Ease mousse is CG so you don't have to miss the mousse Grin I use it
