After saying on here last week that they are 10 years old and still going strong, they have just gone with a big bang. Gutted, I actually welled up, mostly because we can't really afford to replace them at the moment, but they are an essential Xmas Grin.

Anyone have any discount codes or recommendations for cheaper ones?

I had the wide plate ones, and have thick frizzy hair.

cardamomginger · 08/12/2013 12:50

and they have some general discount codes on their homepage

This happened a few months ago. I was Sad too. I ended up buying a pair of babyliss straighteners from Amazon - they were reduced from £80 ish to £26 and I think they're just as good (I don't have particularly curly or even wavy hair though). I can't link as I'm on the phone but worth having a look on there.

NorbertDentressangle · 08/12/2013 13:14

I've just been looking for some straighteners and the Babyliss Pro Elegance 235 ones have excellent reviews .

Lots of people saying they are as good as GHDs (no idea myself though as I've never used GHDs ) - about £30 at Argos, Tesco etc.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 08/12/2013 13:42

Whenever I have used cheaper versions I have found the style hasn't held very well and the frizz has come back. That was years ago though. Bit worried if I get non ghd's and find them not as good I'll be stuck, as won't be able to replace them again.

Regretting big time the full fringe I had cut in, it seriously doesn't work without straighteners!

Asos have them and have 20% of this weekend, with the code WKEND20, so that might help

melmo26 · 08/12/2013 14:41

I just bout myself a new pair, cost £99 with free next day postage off the ghd site. I think the wide plate were the same price. I don't know if that's too expensive tho

squoosh · 08/12/2013 14:42

You could try and appeal to GHD's Christmas spirit and see if they'll fix them. People always rave about their customer service. Worth a try even if they are 10 years old!

This company have repaired my 10 year old GHD's twice now and they do it and get them back to you within a few days, I can highly recommend them.

onlysettleforbutterflies · 08/12/2013 20:21
