I am going to wear this dress to my DH's Christmas do.

I know it's not overly party-like but neither am I and I need a dress I can wear again. This one I can team up with black boots and wear it to a restaurant so it won't be a one-off dress. So anyway, for the party, what footwear would be best? I'm clueless about things like this.

I cannot wear very high heels but I am short so I need the extra height - it just needs to be as comfortable as possible. I think around 2.3" would be about right for me. I also have wide feet so nothing pointy. The chunkier the style, the better for me really. I am a size 5 and budget, well, no more than £50 if poss as I can't see me wearing them very often at all.

I would really appreciate any help whatsoever as I feel quite lost without boots!!Xmas Blush

I think the black patent ones are better.. With the dress. & black opaque tights.

Red. & black is very in right now so you will be able to pick up some lovely accessories to go with the dress. I can see a lovely formal black coat over it with a fur collar.
Lots of tartan or red & black check stuff in shops now so a lovely scarf & boots with it by day.
Good buy for this season I reckon Smile

I really like that dress-had one very similar from monsoon but got bleach on it. For night out I would dress it up with statement necklace, black opaques or very sheer black tights and great shoes. I would go for a black suede court or shoe boot-m&s actually have some decent shoes for around £30 that are not stupidly high.

Twinklestein · 08/12/2013 14:00

What about these MsKG £45 in the sale. Very Alexa Chung.

Love the dress by the way.

working3jobs · 08/12/2013 19:22

oh, like the dress. I love block heel ballet pumps and fishnets. statement necklace.
have a fab time.

IDugUpADiamond · 09/12/2013 08:26

I am relieved you like the dress. I guess I'll wear it with a black belt, black tights and black shoes. I'd rather not wear too many accessories, perhaps just a pair of earrings. What sort of earrings would go well?

IDugUpADiamond · 10/12/2013 07:01

Morning!! Really ladies, what earrings with this ensemble?

OP posts:
IDugUpADiamond · 11/12/2013 10:11

Please ladies? Earrings? I'll wear my hair down so perhaps I won't bother...

biryani · 11/12/2013 10:31

No! Put your hair up! If you ate wearing a statement necklace, wear simple matching studs. Or go for danglies but nothing/ something subtle round the neck.

cloudskitchen · 11/12/2013 10:36

I like the second shoes better thsn the first, or what about some suede wedges? I'm no help with earrings as I only ever wear my little diamond studs and have done for 12 years Confused

Have a great time

Dumpylump · 11/12/2013 10:47

I'd be more inclined to wear a statement necklace rather than earrings - especially if you're wearing your hair down. There are some really nice ones in Top Shop at the moment.
I'd also think about an ankle boot, or shoe boot instead of the shoes you've linked to. They don't need to be skyscraper high, but they would give your outfit a bit more "edge" iykwim?www.next.co.uk/g49198s3# media.topshop.com/wcsstore/TopShop/images/catalog/32A37FBLK_large.jpg

Don't wear a belt with the dress, not unless it's a very thin waist belt, otherwise it will spoil the fall of the dress.

IDugUpADiamond · 11/12/2013 11:29

No belt = no problem. In fact, one less thing to worry about Grin
No shoes, boots instead? Now I'm confused, I thought one had to wear shoes to look party like
Hair up? Absolutely no way in the world whatsoever that's EVER going to happen.
Statement necklace? - I would feel like my 6YO DD when she dresses up. Me thinks not.

So just red dress, opaque tights, black shoes, and if I feel glamorous on the night I'll put on a bangle. It dingles.

It's quite a plain dress though, isn't it? The neck is quite high ie not plunging, so perhaps a statement necklace wouldn't suit. Still needs some bling, though, to my mind. What about a pashmina instead of a coat?

IDugUpADiamond · 11/12/2013 18:40

It is really really plain and now that I've looked at it, a belt won't suit at all. SO I might have to revisit the whole statement necklace situation but to be perfectly honest, I don't really know what a statement necklace is as I NEVER wear necklaces of any type. I am very short so I couldn't pull off anything heavy and busy I don't think. I'd love some of your suggestions ladies.

Statement necklaces are very now. This sort of thing.

IDugUpADiamond · 11/12/2013 18:53

Does it have to be so blingy or could it be something like this?

Those are very pretty. I have a long single strand (flapper style) that I loop round twice with one loop much shorter than the other. Adds sparkle without being too blingy (not that I'm adverse to a bit of bling Grin )
