Cut my own fringe hairs a mess, Christmas night out on Friday

Can't afford a haircut, haven't had my hair cut since July so it's all ragged and spilt ends Hmm

I cut my fringe and messed it up, it's kind of a side fringe but never looks right ever.

So Christmas night out, I was thinking bun at least it would hide the straggles but what to do about the bad fringe? My hairs so bad I hate it just now, I will be able to afford a dye at least so roots will be hidden?

Can you hairspray the fringe across to one side so it's sort of out of the way? Or backcomb it and clip it back into a sort of quiff(if it's long enough)?

And do you have a friend who could give your straggly ends a bit of a trim to stop them getting worse? Failing that, could you get an appointment at a hairdressing college for a trim, they only charge a fiver or something.

LittleNoona · 07/12/2013 22:17

How about going into the hairdressers and asking for a fringe trim? Mine only charges £3.

sweetkitty · 07/12/2013 22:30

I don't know if they could tidy it up it looks such a mess and I've cut it too short

I'm just feeling really down about my whole appearance right now I look terrible. I'm fed up having no money to do anything about it either.

I did this earlier in the year, my fringe spent a couple of months either clipped to the side when hair down, or pinned back in a quiffish way as per Lexie's suggestion if hair up. Bun good idea - I sometimes put mine in a sort of low side bun which I quite like. Fringe trim and hairdressing college v good suggestions. You could brave if you have the nerve...

BigArea · 07/12/2013 22:36

Actually is a bit better

DavenotChas · 07/12/2013 22:56

Volumising powder stuff and a big quiff. Practice wearing it all week so you don't feel conscious of it. Get one of those doughnut things and practice putting your hair up in a bun. That plus quiff plus makeup plus wine (lots of) makes for a very pleasing night out hair do. I speak of one that managed to fuck up the mumsnet hairdo gaining myself an unwanted fringe in the process. The quiff with my hair drawn back reminded me that I had cheekbones. Oh, and lots of eyeliner, you'll look gorgeous.

Butterytoast · 07/12/2013 22:59

This?
You could then put your hair in a bun

BigArea · 07/12/2013 23:49

Buttery did you mean to post "Kobe vs. Messi: The Selfie Shootout"?!?!?! Grin

OP after reading DavenotChas's post perhaps you should disregard my links...

Thank you for your suggestions, I don't know if fringe is long enough to hide in bun, sparkly side clip an option too.

You know times when you just feel totally disgusting, well I'm having one Hmm

Oh no that's not good Sad

HoHolepew · 08/12/2013 09:44

Claires do a clip on fringe for £12 or a clip on ponytail. If you had the ponytal you could slick the finge back.

TallulahBetty · 08/12/2013 09:49

Do a quiff?

Butterytoast · 08/12/2013 12:02

Umm no I didn't lol it was supposed to be a double twist side fringe...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/12/2013 21:12

Either have a fringe trim or find a trusted friend and see if you can use a few strands of longer hair to chop into the fringe, leaving it wispy but longer.
Might work, then you have to let it grow and pin back the longer strands while they grow out.
