Looking for a red brooch

boogiewoogie · 04/12/2013 14:30

or some kind of red accessory to go with my all black outfit for a concert I'm performing in. I haven't got anything! I've had a look on Accessorize but there doesn't seem to be much. There is a big red flower corsage but that's it. I want something a bit more subtle as it's only mean to be a splash of red. I don't really do hair accessories.

Thank you.

Have you looked at erstwilder brooches they have some lovely ones, some are quite quirky and vintage looking . But dd has bought a couple and they are really well made

Hi just a couple of suggestions if it's for a one-off;

buy a brooch or other accessory you like, of the right size and shape, from a charity shop. Use some red nail polish to get it the right colour.

Or customize one you already have - with nail polish

Or make one from salt dough, and again use nail polish to get the right colour ( I once made a fake salt dough large "pearl" to replace one that had fallen out of an inexpensive costume brooch - you couldn't spot it!)

You will then be able to choose exactly the right shade of red.

Good luck for the concert.

Got a local craft shop? I made one very easily today. A bit of metal, a bit of plastic, superglue. Very easy!

Ooh and in doing this I spent £2.10

Thank you for the suggestions. I did have a look in the charity shop this afternoon but there wasn't really anything that I could customise.
I like the idea of getting a vintage looking one. I shall go into town on Friday and try the market!

Ebay often has lovely brooches - I have an enamelled pair of cherries from the '50s.

Avalaya is good for cheap fashion jewellery. They have a wide range of brooches, including vintage styles. The website looks a bit rubbish but I've always found them to be reliable.

ranoutofnames · 04/12/2013 22:02

what about one of the diamante poppy brooches?

boogiewoogie · 04/12/2013 22:10

Yes, Jenny, I've had a look on Ebay and there are lots of lovely ones there to give me inspiration, I'm leaning towards sparkly ones.

Wow, Hyvai, that website has gazillions of them! I have the Swarovski dragonfly one but alas in blue!
