Help! I need a new look.

I have got to 34 and realised I've lost a lot if my sense of style.

In my 20s I thought I looked great. Very grungy, dancer look with fantastic red dreadlocks. I looked smashing! But now I'm a middle class mummy of two and am a world away from that wild young thing.

I need a capsule wardrobe of nice things to wear mostly at home and to usual outings to play groups ect.

Seriously don't know where to start. I'm usually size 10 ( size 12 at moment as just had baby) small top and chunky thighs.

Any advice where to start? I am open to suggestions

Start buying cardigans. I am not being sarcastic. I love them, and they are a great foundation for lots of looks. Also, find some really nice tailored trousers. I recommend Banana Republic.

Try a free personal shopper in one of the department stores. You might be surprised and refreshed by their ideas and there is no pressure or obligation whatsoever to buy. And it's a fun me-time activity. Urban Outfitters & Asos have some good outfit ideas -as in, what goes well together. Oh, and Zalando is good- free delivery & returns.
Get a fab pair of jeans that make you feel great. Go for tops in colours that suit you and make you feel happy when you put them on. I agree with nice cardis like previous poster. You need a selection of separates that you like and that are quick and easy to get ready in the morning. And I'd get some funky flat shoes as you'll always want to wear them as opposed to heels. Now to max out on your credit card...

I think you need to get back in touch with the old you. Not saying you need to dress exactly as you did but it doesn't sound like you're a capsule wardrobe of taupes and greys kinda gal.

Topshop and Urban Outfitters sound like good places to start.

Also blogs and Pinterest can be great sources of inspiration.

I'm with Sqoosh. You sound like you have an innate sense of style even if you feel that you've lost it recently. Rather than flailing around for a brand new look, I would start with grungy/dancer: Is there anything you still like about it? What don't you like? Do you want a total change or do you just want to help it evolve a little? (Incidentally, having just come from the over 40 thread, I feel compelled to add that there is no need at all to change it unless you actually want to Smile )

I think if you do that, you're more likely to find a look that is distinctive and unique to you.

You could do with a shopping trip and try everything on that you would never dream of buying!

A personal shopper sounds like a great idea. Don't lose your sense of self. Going from dreads to mummy dresses simply doesn't work!

Do you like colour/pattern something a bit different?

What sort of things did you wear? I'm not really sure what grungy dancer is! Is there anyone whose style you like that you could link to so we can get an idea of the look you like? Also what is your hair like now?
