Bleach Bath at hairdressers, anyone had one?

Okay so I've made my appt at the hairdressers to have a bleach bath then a colour.

Basically to achieve the colour I want I need to lift out the slightly darker colour on my lengths then have a colour put over.

I remember vaguely having a bleach bath or something similar a long long time ago (10 years+) but my hair was then dyed a dark brown to take it to red. If I remember correctly it was just like they were washing my hair, but with some bleach added? Sounds a bit scary!

Just wondering if anyone has had one recently done at the hairdressers, what does it do to the condition of your hair etc? Does it lift the colour out quite well or can the result be quite patchy? My roots are lighter than the lengths of my hair, but I guess the hairdresser will take this into consideration & match them up. I just don't want to end up with neon orange roots & straw hair!

I've had this done twice.

The only problem is the first couple of times you colour your hair it will fade really quickly. I colour mine myself and had to do it within 3 weeks the last time.

My condition hasn't been effected, I just make sure I use a decent conditioner.

Thanks Sassee, I'm just a little apprehensive, I've put my hair through a lot these last couple of months, I'm amazed I still have hair left, I'm very lucky to have strong, thick hair!

It's not in the best condition & if the worst happens & it does begin to snap off, it'll only be my fault. But my hair colour at the moment is understated, it's just non-descript & getting me down. Hopefully once it's the colour I want, which is near as my natural colour, I won't have to keep colouring it, unless like you said, it fades the first few times. I've almost but ditched the straighteners in the last week so cutting down on heat usage.

All this & I'm trying to grow it longer!

I had one recently too, it was a bit smelly but otherwise like having a lengthy, rather vigorous hair wash. It lifted my home-coloured brown colour to a lightish blonde and a couple of conditioning treatments from the supermarket sorted the condition out. I was really happy with the result.
