Rant about boys' clothes!!!

Went into H&M today -the girls' stuff was all pink princesses which is a rightly well aired topic.

However I'd like to rant about the fact that the boys' clothes were typically drab, black/brown/grey/navy, dismal, depressing and miserable!

Our little boys are so full of fun and colour! Why do people think we want to buy them clothes so lacking in it? What are we saying about our boys?

My favourite jumper of my son's is leaf green with a fox face (John Lewis - expensive and given for last year's xmas).
More like that needed!

Does anyone feel the same?

Yes - in fact years ago I started a thread and got loads if great links which are now most likely out dated

I LOVE bright colours for boys

I don't shop in next usually not my think but ran in recently ( to buy some tights for my boys!) and had a quick shifty at the boys clothes - they were just awful. No diversity from blue grey or sludge coloured

Too sad

I used to like Next for my DS mind you that was 20 years ago, so have no idea what they are like now.

My favourite outfit for him was a red/white striped grandad shirt with a red waistcoat and jeans when he was about 2, he looked lovely in it.

I also liked Mckays, they had love,y shades of blues and greens, I think they might be M&Co now, again no idea what they're like now Smile

Maybe you just went in on a bad day? I find H&M boys' clothes to be excellent for non-drab colours actually. DS has some of their stripy t shirts every year - this year's is bright blue and grass green stripes, he's also got a lovely red and blue checked shirt from there, and fleeces in multi-coloured stripes and navy with green stars. Also a bright green coat which he loves and which people keep asking where I got it from.

My issue with H&M is about the girls' clothes - apparently now that DD is eight she is supposed to dress like Miley Cyrus Hmm.

Boden offers really bright clothes. Can be pricey but 30-50% off just now.

So agree with you, Behindthescenes. Dd is 5 and I don't buy anything for her in H&M anymore for that reason. Would second/third H&M for boys though, the starry fleece is gorgeous on my ds (6) with bright green cords. You could try Lands End, fairly colourful and 30% off until midnight.

H&M was great when DS was younger.he wears age 9-10 now and I've noticed that they cut a lot of colour from their range for older boys.

Makes me really sad. I refuse to dress him in grungy sweat pants and character t shirts.

Gap older boys also very bland this year, and the quality is terrible. I picked up a Christmas Jumper and it looked like an acrylic charity shop donation. Ugh.

Zara sometimes have some nice colours in, but I often think their outfits are a bit "little Lord Fauntleroy" with matching waistcoats and cravats....not a great look on an 8 year old!

What is even more frustrating is that I work in Retail buying and I want to phone up kids buyers and say "for gods sake why have you put 60% of your range into Bloody Angry birds - not every boy likes them!"

But that would make me sound a bit mad. Grin

Agree that is often the case and even worse they have horrible graphics on them. Sainsburys - who I love for most things - used a skull symbol on its boys clothes (anything over baby size) last year. I stopped buying as I don;t want my son wearing such grizzly things every day - bad enough coping with the commercial hype over Halloween. Slightly better this year but the prices have gone up considerably and still over-whelmingly black/grey/navy. When I asked an Assistant they blamed the rise in VAT (which is not chargeable on children's clothes) - when in fact they should be 20% cheaper pro rata. Rant over.
Suggest wait until John Lewis have things on sale when you get great quality at reasonable prices and some colour together with excellent customer service.
