Lipstick 'fixer' recommendations

Hello lovely people

I like lipstick but never have time/can be bothered/see the point in reapplying through the day. Has anyone used anything that keeps it on all day or for longer?

I remember 'lipcote' but don't know if it's any use or still available & if these sort of products can be used with moisturising lippies or just matt types etc

TIA

Yeah, you can still get Lipcote, but there really isn't much point. It sort of works, but really it's not good for all day wear - it has a tendency to peel. Here are my tips:

Get a lipstick you know stays on reasonable well. Easier said than done! Even different colours within one line can very considerably. Don't think that just because you spend more on one, doesn't mean it stays on better.

Assuming you now have your reasonably OK lipstick that doesn't slide about, dry out your lips, etc.

  1. apply a primer or even just a lip balm to your lips (I just use balm). Wipe off any excess.
  1. use a compatible lipliner and cover your entire lip. If in doubt just get one neutral, lip coloured one.
  1. apply first layer of lipstick. With a brush is preferable.
  1. blot.
  1. gently dust lips with a fine face powder. You can just pat it on with your finger.
  1. apply second layer of lipstick. Once again, brush is best.
  1. blot if needed.

You can often skip steps 2 & 5, but it depends on the lipstick you're using.

I find my lipstick will last all day doing it this way, but often do a quick slick/blot after eating. It only takes a couple of seconds and if the base has worked then that should be all that's needed.

It sounds like a lot of work, but is quite quick and easy once you get it down.

Was just looking at another thread and I can highly recommend Maybelline Superstay 24. It is VERY long lasting and comes in some fab colours.

Generally you should only need to re-use the balm once or twice and you can use any lip balm, not just the one it comes with.

Yeah, the superstay 24 hour is great, I use it for nights out and the like and it really, seriously stays put. IME you can apply the balm it comes with as often as you like but other balms tend to melt it. Fatty food will melt it too but is fine if you apply the 'official' balm before eating.

For day time I really do prefer a proper lipstick (applied more or less as lookat says when I can be bothered), even if the does mean occasional reapplying.

Thanks all. I have used the 24hr stuff & it is good but have just bought several other lippies as a diagnosed HoC autumn. Will try the lip liner & blotting approach tomorrow. Was kind of hoping for a miracle product that I hadn't heard of yet!

Was reading about mua fixing spray in another thread-would it work on lips? Off to look at the colours in maybelline 24hr
