Shampoo for very greasy hair?

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a shampoo for my DS, he's 15 with shoulder length hair which is always lagged, even when freshly washed it's lank and greasy. I realise it's probably hormones but he's embarrassed about it.
I've tried a few from Boots for oily hair but no difference, he avoids washing it daily as I've heard it can make it worse.
Any ideas? preferably in the lower price range.

I have discovered that shampoos that are green, whatever the price, work well for greasy hair.
I know that doesnt sound at all scientific to say that. But green ones also seem to be quite cheap so may work for your son.

He could try Aussie Mega - your hair feels really squeaky clean afterwards, and it's designed not to build up. A lot of cheaper shampoos leave a residue on your hair which means it looks greasy and lank all the time.

Pantene Clarifying shampoo - it's a clear one. Really gives a deep clean feeling but maybe too harsh for everyday.

I'm a very greasy hair person and the product that worked for me was aqueous cream. I use it like a conditioner, leave it in for 5-10mins and wash out as normal. I also use Tesco own brand coconut shampoo twice a week. my hair is in extremely good condition according to my hairdresser, so I must be doing something right.

Dry shampoo is great for getting rid of greasy roots - is my saviour for greasy hair and means I can get away without washing it everyday. Tried lots - batise (?? Or called something similar) is best one.

Something silicone free might be good, as this avoids build up which makes grease worse (I think someone already said this!)

Herbal Esssences seem to have brought out a new silicone free range in their old school packaging (I spotted it in boots today!!)

Tresemme Deep Cleansing is pretty good.

Although this may seem a bit counter-intuitive, a light oil-free 'volume' conditioner might help counter the lankness.

Is he particularly attached to it being shoulder length - might look better in a shorter style.

Thanks everyone, a few there to try :) he won't get his hair cut off unfortunately, I'll be getting some for him to experiment with :)

I have naturally greasy hair and i use tigi bedhead urban antidotes level 1. it's a really light every day shampoo. anything else is just too heavy.

RandomMess · 30/11/2013 21:25

Actually washing his hair far less often would help the most so go with the dry shampoo everyday and try just washing every 5 days or so???

I used to use Vosene for my uber-greasy hair. I have it bleached now, which dries out the roots a bit (enough that I can wash it once a day and it looks clean - previously it would only look clean for an hour or two after washing). Vosene is pretty good for greasy hair though, do you live in a hard water area by any chance? I always have very greasy hair in London, the water there is different from the water at home (north west) and leaves my hair with a horrible residue and looking 2 shades darker.
