What is the most flattering hairstyle for a round face?

Or, if you have a round face and / or chubby cheeks, what style do you have currently?
I'm very confused by this one!
I have a large head, round face AND chubby cheeks right now.. I need to lose weight.. however, even when I've been very slim, my face stays round and my cheeks still look slightly chubby... in fact I look like a ridiculous lollipop if I ever lose too much weight
So.. I 'may' have got it wrong all these years, re style.. and I'm prepared to stand corrected........
I always thought.. from reading mags, and talking to various hairdressers.. and from own somewhat possibly deluded viewpoint.. long and straight was the style to have. After all, long in theory adds illusion to suggest longer face (and partly cover cheeks!), and combined with me being quite tall , I thought it was win-win in the distracting from the chubby chops.. I was always told, steer away from bulky, heavy style.. no added bulk around face.. ie face is bulky enough.. my hair is naturally straight (slight wave to ends in damp weather) and fine/flat.. can be lank if not washed every other day.. and I have a fringe.. I thought i'd got it right.. (if fringe is cut well..never if it's too long, or too short..)
But.. looking through old photos of the last decade or so... my weight has yo yoed hugely but looking at all the ones where I'm overweight, sometimes by four or five stone.. I've tended to go for optimum length at those times.. and, I look TERRIBLE. The hair itself is immaculate.. sleek, nicely coloured, sometimes highlighted.. but the longer the hair, the larger my face looks.. perhaps it wouldn't look so bad if I had thick hair.. but my head in all the overweight pix actually looks like a few shiny strands scraped over a football... it just seems to emphasise the size of my face... ie lack of (thick hair) and excess of face!
yet surprisingly, the most flattering shots, are when hair is shorter (eg shoulder length), and i have blunt choppy layers - I have no idea why this should be more flattering.. doesnt this go against the rules..adding bulk to the face? my hair looks bigger in these photos but my face looks better, framed by the shorter blunter hair.. perhaps it's all about structure..
am now thoroughly confused and would love some input!
sorry it's so long!

Personally I think short choppy bobs look great on so many different face shapes so would always be dead cert to look good. I have a fat round face and for years I had the long straight hair and fringe combo. It is not the most flattering as I have fine hair. I have had a really short bob which looked great and last month I went for the chop and a lovely short haircut with a side fringe and short layers on top. It does really suit my face and even when I do very little to my hair it still looks nice.

Graduated bob?

MrsPeacockDidIt · 28/11/2013 12:48

Sorry new here so dont' how to link yet but google Michelle Williams.

I have same shape face as you and similiar hair type although mine is maybe even finer. The hair cut she has looks so good on me and I wish i'd done it soon. Really easy in the mornings too, although it does need regular trimming.

A pixie with a long side swept fringe and lift on the crown. Hair short at the sides and lifted crown elongate the face. Totally off the face fringes work too as long as it is textured across the crown.

i don't think I'm brave enough to go short! maybe graduated bob.. i wish i had confidence to go short, but i'd feel so exposed.. never been short inmy whole life!

so i'm wondering why the long straight hair thing that i was advised so much in the past... is wrong? it really doesn't slim/lengthen the face... not with hair fine like mine... i've been going wrong all these years. .it's fine when i'm slim.. but that's not always the case!

My face is quite round and long hair does suit but it needs volume. It actually looks best when worn in soft waves but if straight I need to make sure it gets a good blow dry so it isn't flat. I think it's about proportions. The bigger I am the bigger my hair needs to be.

CooEeeEldridge · 28/11/2013 14:40

I'm a moon face big head too. I find length with layers that I can curl / wave and a fringe either full or swept to the side work best. A pixie crop on a big head is all kinds of wrong! Also, an honest hairdresser is the best help ever!

I have long hair with a very heavy blunt fringe and long layers starting at my jaw

Looks nice either with a loose curl or straight

I've got a round face and short hair really doesn't suit me

I think you are right, Statistically, and it is about proportion. Choppy layers definitely suit me..though curls/ perm does not. Nor does short hair.. I do tie it up when at home but that looks awful too so I wouldn't do it out. So my hair would be fine long if it had volume unfortunately when i ran away from abusive ex this year, I left my Babyliss Big Hair behind and never had chance to use it! Hopefully it's still there as I need to go back some time and retrieve stuff if he's not destroyed it all

i think a pixie crop on a huge noggin would not work. It needs a small, dainty skull!
