Are these shoes okay or a bit old fashioned?

Clarks Carousel Ride in black patent (sorry can't link on my phone).

I'm looking for something that I can wear to my work Christmas evening meal with black skinnyish jeans but will be able to wear again to work every day. They don't need to be high fashion because people I work with aren't and they need to be flat/comfortable because it's quite a walk from the train station to the venue. Also, I have wide feet!

I am sorry, but at 48 I wouldn't wear them Grin

BunnyLebowski · 26/11/2013 10:48

Link

It's a no from me. They're little girl's shoes and not remotely party wear.

BunnyLebowski · 26/11/2013 10:50

What size are you OP?

NorthernLurker · 26/11/2013 10:50

I think they're fine. No point buying something you won't wear again and patent is always festive Grin I have wide feet too. Will your feet stay in those? Heel grips could be handy.

piratecat · 26/11/2013 10:53

they look really uncomfortable with no support, but i have arch problems (due to wearing flat shoes with no support!)

yet, they would be ok for what you are describing.

OwlCat · 26/11/2013 10:55

Thanks. It's really difficult to decide what else to get, it's a meal in a gastro-type pub and I've only just started this job, so don't want to go too over the top partyish in case nobody else does, though I do have a sparkly top that I plan to wear.

I'm a size 6. I'm used to flats amd find them comfortable, I struggle with too much of a heel as I'm prone to falling over Smile

I wouldn't wear them for an occasion like that. I have a standby pair of peep toe sling back heels with a slight platform sole that I wear for all nights out! Two pairs actually, one pair nude patent, the other pair black patent. They are incredibly comfy and were only £28 from Next.

I don't think shoes have to be dead flat to be comfortable, and I also don't think you have to bow to the lowest common denominator - if you don't want to. Just because your colleagues aren't that into fashion doesn't mean you can't get glammed up.....if that's what you'd like to do!

capsium · 26/11/2013 11:04

I like them. I would wear them. I can see them going well with your skinny jeans. Smile

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 26/11/2013 11:06

Yes, they are classic in a good way rather than old fashioned! think Audrey Hepbrun.

DuckToWater · 26/11/2013 11:06

I think they are ok but nothing special, just an everyday shoe. Of course they are fine to wear to a pub with jeans. They are not old fashioned but have passed beyond trendy to mainstream, I'd say.

What I would say though is my feet would be very cold in them in the depths of winter, they are not very seasonal. I'd go for some kind of boot- I'm not very good with heels either but find them more wearable in boots.

DuckToWater · 26/11/2013 11:07

Also ballerina flats are so flat they have no arch support at all and can actually be uncomfortable.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 26/11/2013 11:10

how about these m&s they are basically the same as the ones you linked to but they are wide fi from m&s and I have them. they have cushioned insole so nice and comfy. won't win any style awards but are inoffensive.

Skinheadmermaid · 26/11/2013 11:29

I like them but you can get identical or nice ballet flats for under a tenner from Primark, new look etc.
How about some slipper shoe type pumps in a burgundy or leopard print?
I know your pain as i can't walk in even a tiny heel so always wear flats.

Skinheadmermaid · 26/11/2013 11:30

*nicer

PrimalLass · 26/11/2013 11:43

They are just patent ballet shoes. I like them.

polyhymnia · 26/11/2013 11:50

OK.I wouldn't get them myself because I think there are nicer ballerina flats around and I like to feel the shoes I get are more than just OK.

But if you like them and they seem comfortable they are inoffensive.

OwlCat · 26/11/2013 12:04

Thanks for all of your replies, I am still contemplating!
