Cosmelan

Hello,

Just wondering if anybody had had the 'cosmelan' treatment for pigmentation. I developed it 8 years ago (when still 'youngish' and ons strong dose contraceptive pill) and it got worse during my pregnancies. I've tried nearly every lotion and potion (prescribed by a dermatologist and 'beauty' products) and none of them have made a difference. (Clinique, Lancôme, 'Indeed', skinceuticals, Vinoprotect range from caudelie, something ridiculously expensive from SpaceNK, etc....)

I recently had a posh facial - last year's Christmas present that i decided to cash in - at a very 'scientific' place (not super luxurious but raved about by the Sunday Times, Harpers Bazaar etc.) and they seem convinced cosmelan is the only treatment that really works. (They didn't recommend lasers as they damage the skin too much... apparently Confused?)

Anyway, it seems it's a brand name of a facial peel and I'd have at least a week when I looked horribly sunburnt. I'd be very interested to hear from anybody who has tried it - did it work???!? If it really is that good, I'm tempted to shell out the serious cash required.

My pigmentation is in typical 'mask of pregnancy' and I've been asked, several times, if I have bruises on my face, even when wearing make-up Hmm. I'm trying not to be vain but it has really diminished my confidence. Other than my pigmentation, my skin is in decent nick for somebody in their mid, well, late Wink 30s.

Thank you in advance - if anybody is prepared to share!

I haven't heard of it but didn't want to read and run. There is a treatment I have read about on mumsnet called Obagi Nu Derm which I think should only be available through a dermatologist but some people have ordered via American stockists on amazon. If I recall correctly it is meant to be amazing for pigmentation issues so may be worth researching. Again though I think there is a period of skin adjustment /big red face that goes with it! Good Luck!

Thanks JoanDarc! Yup - heard of that... I'll research the differences. Thanks! (Yup, prepared for peeling bright red face Shock - just hoping it's only really bad for a week or so Confused...)

I have read so much about Obagi but never heard of Cosmelan, so in my very unscientific study (!!) would suggest maybe it might be a more effective treatment. Skin issues are awful, am currently battling a return to jaw/chin acne after finishing breastfeeding so I can sympathise with how crap it feels!

Oh no - that's awful. I had bad acne, randomly for the first time ever, when my youngest was 2 and it was horrid. Thankfully so topical creams sorted it out really quickly. (Skinoren - which, ironically is supposed to help with pigmentation!) Hope you have a good GP and get it sorted soon. (We have an amazing dermatology specialist GP at our surgery. Actually, I might be cheeky and ask her about cosmelan/obagi!)

Hello, I have had both Comelan and Obagi for my melasma which I have been treating for about 3 years now. As you may know Melasma is not curable, needs maintenance to keep on top of it. Sadly thats my life now, spent a fortune and still on it.
Cosmelan was very good, and helped alot, also the obagi which I had done this year, was also helpful. I found the cosmelan better for my skin type.
