wardrobe reorganisation - tips for reducing and organising needed

I have just been having a mini turn out and realise I have far too much stuff and I don't know how to organise it to get the most out of it. I have to be reasonably smart for work and very smart on a few occasions and so I need to keep one trousers suit and one skirt suit. I seem to have lots of cardigans, jumpers, skirts and trousers. All of which I wear sometimes and some I wear a lot.

So you wise people how can I reduce what I have and how best to hang it in the wardrobe to see what I have and get the most from it??

When I do a wardrobe clear out, I first look at Pinterest or something to get outfit ideas, then I see what's in the wardrobe. I put a few combinations together and chuck stuff that I don't think I'll wear again. I usually discover a few hidden gems doing this.

Some people recommend hanging outfits together, but I don't. I hang tops in colour order, same for cardigans etc. and skirts/trousers. It makes it easier to find stuff!

I read on one thread on here abt wearing your clothes normally for a month but keeping a pile for the clothes you wear. So at the end of the month you 'get rid of' the things you haven't worn.
Has anyone tried this approach?

I think I'd miss my winter coats come November if I tried that plan in July!!

what I do is clear out the obvious stuff first, the things That if I'm honest with myself were a mistake and that I hardly ever wear. Plus the things that have seen better days, don't fit right etc etc. then I would leave it a month or two, and go through it again for a further edit of stuff that isn't earning it's keep and you can't justify keeping in there just in case...

I have recently had a bit of a tidy out of my wardrobe. I put all my summer things away in my suitcase. Then I tried on all my clothes and throw out/ put in charity bag anything which was to small, too big, worn or I did not look forward to wearing.

On another day I tried to think about where I wear clothes and what I would like to wear to find out which pieces I was missing.
