Bras during pregnancy. Help.

Posting this here rather than in Pregnancy because I know there are so many bra experts on S&B Grin

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and currently have one bra that fits. My boobs have not stopped growing since I got my bfp. I started off as a 28e/f and am now in a 28h, though even that is starting to look a bit tight - I only bought it last week! Bras I bought a month ago I can't even do up at the back anymore and I constantly have red marks on me from where they've been digging in.

I'm spending at least £40 a month on bras and I really can't afford it. I have a non-wired sports bra in a size small which I'm alternating with the underwired bra I have at the minute. It gives some support but its not ideal.

What can I do? I want to start putting more money to one side for mat leave not spending it all on bras! I'm also a bit worried that wearing badly fitting bras later on in pregnancy could cause problems with milk supply, etc. How do other pregnant women manage?

Now then, I had a marvellous maternity/ nursing bra that was stretchy enough to cover several sized and had padding to take out to accommodate even more growth. I got it from the NCT and a lovely lady came round and fitted it for me. I'll see if I can find it online. It wasn't pretty, but it was really comfy.

Link isn't working for me Sad. What's it called and I'll do a search for it on Amazon?

If you explain your predicament to the lovely women in bravissimo they will help. There are some bras with stretchy-ish lace cups that will give you a bit more wear, with room for bulging boobs!

beansbeansgoodfortheheart · 23/11/2013 19:18

Oh and google bra extenders. Could be helpful too.

carrielou2007 · 23/11/2013 19:25

I wore sports bras just soft ones that were about £7 my boobs get huuuuuge when pregnant and no trouble feeding any of my dc. I also wore soft 'sleep bra' think from Morhercare I used fir night feeds were very comfy when pregnant.

Trinpy · 23/11/2013 19:29

Thanks Beans. My nearest Bravissimo is 2hrs away and would be tricky to get to because I don't drive. Are they good at advising customers if I called or e-mailed them and explained the problem. Small band size doesn't help much with choice of brands.

Don't tempt me with talk of bra extenders. When I get to the point that they won't do up at the back it means the cups are already far far too small and I need to get rid!

I wore the soft Sainsburys sports bra for £7 through pregnancy.

Then after baby was born,
I got 8 Asda soft bras, 2 for £4, and perfect for feeding as I just lift it up over my boob!

They are cotton & stretch with different size of boob throughout the day/night.

I have the straps as loose as possible, its so comfortable.

BUT I am only a 36B - so maybe not so good for bigger busts x

beansbeansgoodfortheheart · 23/11/2013 19:36

I've only ever been into the shop trinpy. Worth a try though.

LamaDrama · 23/11/2013 19:39

Also Im not sure if you would wear second hand, but I just looked on Ebay at 'bravissimo maternity & there is a

36G & a 34GG for 99p each.

Trinpy · 23/11/2013 19:41

carrie what sports bra did you buy? Was it sized by bra size or dress size? I'm not finding the sports bra I've got very supportive. Not really a fan of how it squashes my boobs together into this slightly sweaty (tmi) uni boob either - though could probably deal with it if I had one with better support! And I can see how it would be very practical with breastfeeding once baby is here...

I used a bra extender as my bump started directly under my boobs. I went up ine cup size but 2 back sizes. Might be worth a try as much cheaper than new bras.
Have you been measured?

Trinpy · 23/11/2013 19:53

Would happily wear 2nd hand Lama but there's not much choice on Ebay for my size. Atm there's only 2 in 28h on there, neither are brands that fit me well.

There are a few nursing bras in a 28hh on there for less than £10 which I'm tempted by...not sure how supportive they are. They're Panache ones if anyone has worn one?

Hi, sorry Trinpy. I can't find the actual bra I had, but looking at the NCT website shop, it send that the BOOB fast food bra (great name!) and the Emma Jane next generation bras are very similar idea. They are both also nursing bras. I not sure if the flexibility will accommodate all the way to an H though, but worth looking.

beansbeansgoodfortheheart · 23/11/2013 20:13

I love panache! No experience of nursing bras though

carrielou2007 · 23/11/2013 21:22

Think mine were Matalan only cheapo black cotton so practical/easy to wash. The sleep bras you can feed in but they are pretty mono boob I looked like the prow of a ship!! Calmed down a lot now (dc3 6 months)

Trinpy · 23/11/2013 21:40

Will have a look at the NCT shop. Might try out a Panache nursing bra and see what they're like since they're so cheap on ebay. Will have a look at Matalan ones but I think I might struggle to find something that's small enough in the band and large enough in the cup.

I haven't been measured professionally in a long time because I can't find anywhere locally that doesn't fit bras the old fashioned 'add 4 inches' way. But I measure myself every month and underbust measurement is 27 inches same as pre-pregnancy, think its just the cup size which keeps changing.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Lot of things I hadn't thought of.
