I am 35 with skin that is still prone to quite bad spot outbreaks and blackheads. It isn't overly oily, and in fact can become a little dry with the wrong products. What would you suggest I try from the range?? Thanks in advance !

Hi, I am using a combination of Effaclar Duo and Hydraphase Legere for treatment moisturisers - one to treat the spots and one to help with the dehydration. I generally use the Effaclar Duo in the evening and the Hydraphase in the morning, but I'm not using the Effaclar Duo much at the mo as my skin is ok. I'm also alternating their gel cleanser in the evening (double cleanse with muslin cloth) with the effaclar foaming face wash in the morning.

Be gentle with your skin - don't scrub at it. The hot muslin cloth or facecloth, used gently, is great. I wish I'd discovered it years ago.

QuinnFabray · 23/11/2013 08:45

Double cleansing is so simple and effective. Effaclar Duo in moderation - maybe just once a day, or even every other day, see how you go. Or the Effaclar K is very similar but more gentle. I love the physiological soothing toner as well. And the cicaplast baume is incredibly soothing and healing but does not cause breakouts or clog pores. I use this as a night time moisturiser a couple of times a week. This will also heal virtually all your family's skin issues! Daughter uses it on her eczema, husband on his chapped lips. Any little scratch or sore bit gets a slathering of cicaplast, it's magic cream.

But for blackheads and spots definitely try the Effaclar Duo or K, it's amazing. I find the effaclar toner too harsh, and I'm 38 so my skin is starting to age and is a bit dry in places hence why I used the soothing toner and cicaplast baume to counteract the Effaclar stuff.

AwkwardSquad · 23/11/2013 09:32

Ditto with the Cicaplast; my skin has got a bit tired for all sorts of reasons and I've been using the Cicaplast at night on and off - my skin looks better already. Lovely stuff.

And it's the Physiological cleansing gel I'm using, couldn't remember the name - thanks, Quinn. I think it was a post by you that I read that encouraged me to use La Roche Posay so thank you a million times for that as well!

QuinnFabray · 23/11/2013 13:41

Oh, you're very welcome! I can't remember who turned me on to La Roche Posay, I suspect it was someone on here. I would go as far as to say it's been life changing for me. As in, after years of having shit skin and every brand I tried failing me, I now have good skin, not great, but good enough! And the price is pretty good too.

Brandnewmamma · 23/11/2013 13:43

What does effacar duo do? I would love to get rid of blackheads. Love their handcream

Vintagebeads · 23/11/2013 14:16

I love La Roche Posay thanks to this board.

I have vvv dry, clear, sensitive skin and the cicaplast is like a magic potion.
I use it daily, though I have read your not meant to but my skin is so dry it drinks it.

QuinnFabray · 23/11/2013 22:22

Effaclar Duo and Effaclar K are marketed as being "corrective and unclogging anti-imperfection care". They are mild enough that most people can use them every day. I put it on every morning like a moisturiser ( I use something more nourishing at night ), and within a week, my oily, blackheady, congested manky skin was ten times clearer. I also used to break out in hormonal spots every month, and now I never get spots, ever. Unless I stop using it. The main active ingredient is salicylic acid, but they also both contain anti-ageing ingredients too, retinol in the K and something beginning with n in the duo - niocitonin or something like that ( I'd have to google! ).

It's also keeping my 13 year old's skin under control too.

Saurus72 · 23/11/2013 23:44

The Duo works really well for me too, but I'm finding it is quite drying now that the weather has changed. Can anyone please recommend La Roche Posay moisturiser to use on top, suitable for my hormonal, sensitive skin? Thanks.

frazzeled · 24/11/2013 08:16

Thank you all ! Yes would love to know which moisturiser you would think for Saurus as that sounds like what my skin will do. Am slightly hopeful for no acne outbreak mud cycle next month after reading above. I have had problems with my skin all my life - was hoping it would be under control by now!!

Frazzled - I know the feeling. Wrinkles and spots, what joy...!

Effaclar duo is more for active skin, when there is a breakout, and the K works to rejuvenate the skin and maintain when it is clear.
Effaclar AI is also great as a targeted spot treatment.

The Effaclar Mat moisturiser is sensitive, good and mattifying but maybe not for those on the drier side of the spectrum I'd say.

Maybe consider an origins moisturiser alongside, I like vitazing and perfect world but the Dr Andrew Weil stuff is lovely too.

cloggal · 24/11/2013 11:13

Quinn can I ask about cicaplast? I'm oily and very sensitive and effeclar has been a revelation but to use the whole range (which I do) and then the mat moisturiser does leave even me dry, and I'm keen to find a winter cream - do you think I could get away with it?

charitygirl · 24/11/2013 11:18

Does anyone use the Redermic? I've just bought a tube and am using it under my moisturiser in the morning. Do you rate it?

meerkate · 24/11/2013 15:02

charitygirl i just started using it about three weeks ago - at the same time as the olay cheapo version of the clarisonic cleanser-brush-thing (i had a bit of a splurge at boots that day) ... unscientific of me, bcs i don't know which is working, but MAN my skin's improved Smile - it's probably a bit of both but i think the olay brush is a bit harsh on my weedy, broken-vein-prone skin so i am not using it every day, so it's more likely the redermic, i guess.

i got a couple of disagreeable acne outbreaks initially but that's now in the past, i get far fewer spots day to day, and my skin is doing this weird glowing healthy thing - i love it! i use it at night, about 20 mins after putting on some body shop vitamin e oil. so far, i am very impressed. i only tried it 'cos it was on offer but i am definitely going to get some more once this tube runs out - a little goes a long way in any case.

QuinnFabray · 24/11/2013 16:29

Charitygirl I didn't like the redermic. Hated the smell, and found it quite irritating and I came out in a few hard little spots.

Cloggal, I couldn't get away with the Cicaplast as a day time moisturiser with my oily skin. It's quite heavy and leaves me shiny. Absolutely no problem as a night moisturiser though, as in it doesn't clog my pores. And I wake up with my skin glowing.

cloggal · 24/11/2013 16:46

Thanks quinn great to know!

AwkwardSquad · 24/11/2013 20:27

I came out in spots using the Redermic C, unfortunately. I liked what it did at first but then I began to react to it.

charitygirl · 24/11/2013 20:30

Hmm, thanks guys. I have noticed a spot but wondered if I needed to 'push through'. Will be keeping a close eye!

knitknack · 24/11/2013 21:54

The Redermic has been incredible for me - the only cream I've ever bought that has made such a visible difference!!

PetiteRaleuse · 24/11/2013 21:59

I used cicaplast b5 on my baby's eczema patches - worked quite well.
