Frown lines - advice please!

I'm 35, 36 in Jan and for the last few years i have become self-conscious about the wrinkles on my forehead, but particularly the furrow inbetween my eyebrows. I don't have a problem with ageing per se, but think these frown lines make me look grumpy and mean. I am a cheerful person so feel that they distract from the real me. Anyway earlier in the year i tried a fringe - problem solved, lines hidden. However i look really awful with a fringe. It does not suit me at all. I do not want botox/ fillers. What else can i try that actually works? I have spent a fortune on creams in the past. I want to grow my fringe out but tying my fringe off my face just means i am even more aware of the problem than i was before my fringe. I tried some sort of filler cream a few years ago, but can't remember the name - sort of like polyfiller for my face! I looked so much better as it reduced the appearance of these lines, however it formed horrid blobs, flaked off etc when i used foundation and concealer. Anyone find something similar that you can wear with makeup? Also any makeup tricks or hairstyles (except full fringe) that would distract from my wrinkles/ frown burrow? I have long, straight brown hair and want to keep the length as it suits me much better. Sorry this is such a long post, but i just want to hold off the wrinkles for the next few years. Dont feel i should look old and haggard in my mid-30s!

I've heard good reviews of Nip and Fab Viper Venom Wrinkle Fix.

Facial exercises
Facial exercises
Facial exercises

I do Eva Fraser, I am three years older than you, my number 11's have gone, totally, my nasolabial folds have all but gone too.

I have only been doing it for three months and am still on the beginner section (with the extra bits) by the time I am on advanced I expect to look about 16 Grin

Yes, they are a faff and take time and commitment, but they are soooooo worth it, and free (once you have the book).

Thank you sooo much! Hyva - does it stay put even if you wear make up? Gobbler - how long do you spend each day? How do you know what exercises to do? Do you have a book/ website that you use?

Oh, that sounds interesting, GK - I've been doing the Shred/ripped and it set me wondering why, if we can tone the rest of our bodies why there didn't seem to be anything similar for faces.

I'm not particularly wrinkled for my age (52) - one obvious thing is don't tan your face, another is don't smoke, finally do wear sunglasses when it's bright to stop you screwing your face up.

GobblersKnob · 20/11/2013 18:55

It's this book.

When you start it's about 2 minutes twice a day (though it will take longer when you start and you are learning what to do), then you keep adding bits on, it probably takes me about 6 minutes once a day atm.

Eventually you get to advanced which is 10 minutes 3-4 times a week, so it's not a huge time commitment.

They are hard, it takes a while just to find the sodding muscles, yet alone use them! But I cannot stress enough how amazed I am by the results.

Thanks Gobbler! These were exactly the sort of miracle 'cure' i was after! Off to order book and cream!

I first got frown lines in my twenties and I'm convinced it was largely due to squinting my way through my teens rather than admit I couldn't see. So, at the risk of sounding like your mother, have you had your eyes tested recently?

If it is an eyesight thing then the good news is that, although glasses won't cure frown lines, they hide them brilliantly Grin And they disguise dark circles too (much better than Touche Eclat!). In fact, now that I'm older, they distract from all sorts of horrors.

If it's nothing to do with your eyesight or you don't fancy glasses, then I would just play up another feature so as to distract from that part of your face e.g. make a point of always wearing lipstick and/or funky earrings.

Gobblers, that's interesting; I've been convinced there must be soething in facial exercises for a while, but controversy seems to rage about which ones are the best. Apparently some stretch your skin so it can actually look worse, others 'build' so much that you can look lumpy and stiff.

But zapping the frown lines and nasal- labials sounds ace!
One question: can you do them while driving? I have half an hour of dead time twice a day and already do a few exercises I've come across; would I be able to do these?

(I've been doing a few from FaceYoga for a couple of weeks; things are feeling a bit more lifted, but not sure if it shows yet!

frownies are your friend here. They won't stop wrinkles dead in their tracks but they've helped minimise my frowning in my sleep.

Sometimes I wear three frownies at weekends. I know how to live Grin.

BillyBanter · 20/11/2013 21:01

Frownies didn't work for me. I didn't get into the facial exercises. Botox works but it's expensive and temporary.

Maybe I'll try the exercises again.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 21/11/2013 11:59

Flo - thanks for the tips. I have started wearing a brighter lipstick daily since i got my fringe anyway so can definately continue that. I got my eyes tested a few months ago and wear reading glasses at work - completely agree it distracts from my dark circles!
Meg - how long did you use frownies for before you noticed a difference? I tried them a few years ago for about a month and didn't see any difference.
