Done to death, I'm sure, but...scarves?

Following on from a thread I started earlier this week about trying to cover up my eczema riddled neck with make up, I have realised what I probably already knew - that it isn't a good idea.

So now I am thinking a scarf might be a sensible option. Not a winter woolly job, but something cotton or chiffony, to be worn all the time.

Problem is I have no idea how to wear one. If it helps, I am of average height and build, with quite a small chest, which I'm assuming is relevant for scarf wearing!

Any advice on scarf style dos and don'ts is also welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Get a snood. Wrap around three times. Nice and warm and can't get it wrong. I've got a grey leopardy one from New Look and a soft cream one from River Island. Love them!

If you google 'how to wear scarves' on YouTube, I'm sure there are a few videos on there they show lots of ways to wear scarves of different lengths, shapes etc.

is a really good YouTube video that shows you 25 ways to tie a scarf.

Wow! Thank you so much, I think I can make some of those work for me. (Need to go shopping though.)

Any tips on the type of top you can wear with a scarf? I avoid polo necks because I find them itchy, but are there any rules on v-necks etc or patterns (for tops or scarves)?

Plain top with patterend scarf, patternd top with plain scarf.

Neckline will dictate how you "do" the scarf, but any neckline will work other than a cowl neck.

I just wrap a scarf round twice and leave it at that.

Thank you. Now planning a shopping trip. Feeling much more positive about being able to cover up my neck, as it has really been getting me down (which is stupid, I know).

Now... is there a way I can cover up the dodgy skin around my eyes too?!

Enjoy your scarf shopping Science. I have a bit of an obsession about scarves, and prob have far too many!! I actually feel a bit naked without one now, esp in this chilly weather. But they are cheaper (usually) than shoes and handbags and take up less room!!

I totally feel for you and your eczema on your neck. My DD2 has mild eczema, but her neck seems to be her trigger area and the first to flare up. We keep it mostly under control with HC ointment, but can sometimes ravage out of control. I think her's has got worse with the extremes of being cold outside, then the central heating. Hope it calms down for you soon Smile

Oliver Bonas and SpitSpot Designs have some lovely scarves in at the moment.

I have a stunning scarf from Gudrun Sjoden. They do lovely patterns and good lengths.
Also Lilly and Lionel do some stunning scarves but they are pricey.

BTW I am a total scarf obsessive, partly due to living in a chilly house but mostly to distract from my fat tum!

ScienceRocks · 20/11/2013 18:18

Well, I've gone crazy and bought six scarves! All from tesco, but they aren't itchy, are a good length (or infinity style) and I think I'm doing ok with them! Had a slight wobble when I thought they clashed with cardigan wearing, but I rewrapped the scarf and voila! It worked.

Feeling quite proud, quite grown up, much less self conscious about my neck and considerably warmer!
