HoC colour analysis - should I?

I'm thinking of getting my mum and me a voucher for a colour analysis day so we could go together.

We could definitely both do with it. Currently have no style and are both a bit rubbish at style, make up, scarves, accessories, matching etc. Basically, we can do jeans and jumpers.

Both not very confident though. Mum definitely wouldn't like standing out in a crowd. She'd be very self conscious in a group, but I've heard group ones are better (and can only really afford the £99). Would we really hate it? What's it really like, in your experience?

Just come back. There were only 2 of us today, which was absolutely fine. It was so helpful seeing the other participant having the analysis: it was so much easier seeing what suited her than it was myself. I actually found the hardest bit was staring at my face in the mirror for so long (I realised my default when looking in the mirror is to look at what I'm wearing rather than how it looks against my skin).

totallylost · 18/11/2013 18:05

I have mine booked tomorrow. Carrie I am dreading having to look in a mirror and without make-up!!

Did you have an idea of what season you would be before you went?

frankietwospots · 18/11/2013 18:10

I'm debating doing HoC too. Bit scared about the no make-up thing. I put blusher on to put the bins out!

ASmittenKitten · 18/11/2013 18:11

Do it. I spend so much less on clothes these days and my wardrobe isn't full of the wrong clothes which I don't wear. Just do it!

totallylost · 18/11/2013 18:12

only blusher!? I have the lot on!

CadenceRoastingByAnOpenFire · 18/11/2013 18:27

I'm thinking of doing it too. Don't know too much about it apart from what I've read on here. I thought it was just about colour, do they help you with style too? (Sorry to ask a question on your thread judy).

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 18/11/2013 18:31

I think there are separate style days, but maybe you pick OP some style tips on a colour day?

There are a couple of women I work with who have had it done and they always look so right. Both very different ages, styles, colours, but it really works for them. I'm just a frumpy mess! I use the excuse of having small children and little disposable income, but it's not really good enough!

Up, not OP!

The style day is a separate day. I had a colour day with one other person and it was super. Can't recommend it enough. I too felt quite vulnerable without my slap but the consultant immediately put me at ease.

t immediately put me at ease.

totally lost I had started thinking in the last year that I was an autumn: I have brown hair with warming undertones, green eyes, and I always thought a yellow-y toned skin. I wore a few neon orange and coral things this summer/autumn and was convinced this was tipping me definitely into autumn. Turns out I'm a winter!! Complete opposite.

There are colours in every palette that will be familiar to your comfort zone (in my case navy and grey), and coming home, I can think of a few items that fit well into the winter palette. Plus I live in bright white tops in the summer, and have always thought they looked good, so was concerned when I found myself thinking I was autumn, as bright White is a no no.

The no make up thing was fine (and actually didn't last long before she put some on me, in my new palette of course!), worse for me was having my hair covered (I dye it, and it looks more golden than "fits", so next time I have fit dyed, I'll be thinking of slightly altering my dye colour to a less golden tinge).

QueenCadbury · 18/11/2013 20:48

I had it done with 2 other people and it is great watching how the colours look on others. I think the maximum in a group is 4 so it's not massive. It is a bit weird to begin with looking at yourself with no make up on and hair covered up but once you see how good your colours can make you then it's great.

I think the prices are going up in January so if you are interested thn do it or buy a voucher now.

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 21/11/2013 20:17

I've booked it!

I don't think you'll regret it Judy.

I went with 3 strangers to my colour analysis and with friends to my style. I really wish I'd gone with someone I knew the first time too.

When are you going or is this a Christmas present?

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 22/11/2013 07:05

We're going next weekend. It is a Christmas present, but I thought it'd be good to do it before Christmas.

Even better! Enjoy...

CadenceRoastingByAnOpenFire · 23/11/2013 09:37

Can I be cheeky judy and ask you to come and update when you've been. I'd love to know how you find it and it'll help me decide whether to take the plunge :)

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 23/11/2013 09:53

Of course.

I'm looking forward to it. Predicting us both to be autumn, although maybe mum is a winter. DH is hoping we're not the same season as he worries we'll both wear the same things. I assume he's joking...?

CadenceRoastingByAnOpenFire · 23/11/2013 09:59

It'll be interesting to see if you're right. Grin at your dh.

MakeTeaNotWar · 23/11/2013 12:37

I'm having my colours don't tomorrow with HOC - Xmas present from DH!

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 30/11/2013 21:59

How did it go, maketea? We had our day today.

Both cool colours - I'm 'sultry winter', mum is 'dark summer'. Both had expected autumn so surprised we were cool.

The day was lovely. We'd both like to go shopping tomorrow, but that's not going to happen!

OP posts:
MakeTeaNotWar · 30/11/2013 22:50

I enjoyed the day but not my pallet - I'm a golden spring but I couldn't "see" it & not keen on my wow colours Hmm

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 01/12/2013 06:32

That's a shame. Were there any of the colours that you liked? Mine ended up much more pink than I'd have liked. I'm happy to try pink in a scarf or something - could you try that with your wow colours to start?

My mega challenge is going to be wearing lipstick. I've never worn it. It makes my lips look even thinner and it look like a little girl dressing up. But they all said it liked great, including my mum, and I could see it looked amazing on them.

ToffeeWhirl · 01/12/2013 14:32

I went last weekend and have spent this week trying not to spend too much on buying new clothes. I really enjoyed it and going shopping is so much easier. I have always been a very indecisive shopper, so it all takes ages, but now I know what colours to look for, I'm very quick.

I bought the House of Colour lipstick that the consultant recommended because my DH immediately complimented me on it when I came out. So I'd say, buy the lipstick from HOC! It wasn't too pricey either because you get a discount through the consultant.
