Help! Used to be very stylish, friends would ask me advice!! But now I'm in my 50's and I just don't know what to buy! Still quite slim, size 12 mostly, but I find things I look at at either too young for me, although I like them I'd look like mutton dressed as lamb or they're to old and I'd look like granny grunt! Can't seem to find a middle ground! Where do ladies my age find modern stylish clothes?

try isme.com.
my mum is 50 and get gorgeous stuff from there:)

new makeup will help also;)

I think you buy what you like but wear it slightly differently, link to some of the things you think would look muttony and I bet theres a way you could wear it without that being the case.

As sharing says, it's about finding new ways to wear things. What kind of style do you like? What makes you feel frumpy?

And also don't be afraid to have a style iykwim. I get a lot of clients (am an image consultant) who feel that they 'ought' to be dressing a certain way now they have got to whatever age, and once we drill down their best style, it's what they really love wearing but either forgot about, didn't have the confidence to, felt they 'shouldn't', or hadn't discovered yet but had been hankering after etc etc.

I like to dress mostly smart/ casual. It's just I feel I really don't know what to buy any more! I tend to buy eg a top I like but then find I have nothing to match it, so I end up with lots of clothes but still have nothing to wear. I do clear out and give to charity shops, half the time the stuff unworn!! What's happened to me????

I replied on the duplication -
I'm 57 and have just had a bit of a wardrobe clear out. Things I have saved or bought recently include dresses from Whistles, skinny jeans, shortish skirts to wear with opaque tights and biker boots. I'm not very tall so can get away with tunic style dresses, as they are long enough to be respectable on me. I do buy a fair bit of cheaper stuff, including layering tops from Primark and odd bits from Topshop. I don't think age has much to do with style actually and you should just wear what suits you. Have you looked on Pinterest for ideas.

Just posted this on your other thread:
I’m also in my fifties and, in my experience, the biggest problem isn’t a ‘too young/old’ thing, it’s that your body shape often changes when you hit the menopause so your usual clothes don’t suit you any more. In my case, after a lifetime of being a flat-chested pear shape, I grew boobs - only I was the last person to notice grin I didn't put on masses of weight so it took me ages to figure out that it was my uniform of boxy shaped, stripy tops (not to mention badly fitting bras) that was making me look frumpy.
I don’t know whether this has happened to you but my advice is to re-evaluate your shape, maybe with the help of a personal shopper? It certainly worked for me and I’m now enjoying shopping for things I've never worn before e.g. deep V necks and pencil skirts.
Regarding where I shop: I do pay more attention to quality now because cheaper fabrics are very unforgiving of middle aged bodies. But I don’t have a massive budget so I rely heavily on TK Maxx and ‘high end’ dress agencies, supplemented with the occasional treat from Me & Em, Whistles and the like. I also like my hemlines a bit lower (knee length or just below) and I always wear sleeves. And I spend a lot more on underwear! However I still get bits from H&M, River Island and Top Shop - even if it’s only funky jewellry, which is ageless, in my opinion.
Sorry if this is a bit long and I hope it helps. You really don’t have to stop being stylish just because you’re older!

Can't really tell you. BUT I know a friend of my mum who wears/wore high street stuff like Top Shop etc with older stuff.

all about what you like and how you wear it.

for example at a charity dinner I was at with her last week. she wore a navy polka dot knee length dress with white collar and mustard tights and bright pink (neon) CND shapes ravelled (like those paperclip jewellery) bracelet but in loops. looked amazing. she's in her 70s but petite.

she also wears nice white denim jackets and navy or red Sailor/Nautical style stuff.

she admits and its true she's not really a cocktail/super smart dress person but has her own style and tweaks it to suit her. No PS or anything.

I was feeling a bit miserable last Friday so when I was in Tesco doing food shopping I had a look at the clothes and got a black lace T shirt with brass coloured zip at the back and a short full evening style skirt with widthways ruches in the fabric. Look fantastic on together with my Baukjen Obi belt but the top will go with black skinnies and the skirt will look good with a black cashmere jumper and top shop big jewelled necklace.
