Manicures and Pedicures

Why is it that the last few times I´ve had these done the beautician has made a REALLY shoddy job of the nail polish, not going up to the cuticles, leaving ragged edges, doing great big splodges of colour. Is this common? All the rest is fine, just the polish bit that is a really shoddy job.

no - change who you see - and if they leave a tatty bit point it out to them and ask them to fix it! for me manicures are a rarely afforded luxury and you really need a good job doing

me too. love pedicures for the whole filing, massage, softening up thing, but always feel i could have made a better job of the polish myself. then a day or two later i barely notice (if that helps?!). always go for sometyhing neutral-ish too so that not stressed if not a decent finish.

this is terrible -I am in the states - home of the nail bar on every corner..but if i get a pedicure i don't need to touch my toes for 3 weeks - the polish is rock hard and lasts really well. If I get a manicure ( I always get french) I can generally keep the poish on for btwn 5 days and a week. Mind you getting your nails done here is not cheap

Hm, this has happened with at least 3 different beauticians... and I´m too embarassed to point it out to them. Any tips?

Hellllllooooooo ladies - you are paying for a service - why be embarrassed about asking to get what you are expected to pay for? If a shoddy job is done, ask for it to be redone - simple - and if it's all done in a huffy way, make it clear that you won't be returning nor will you be recommending -

  • sorry for the rantish-type post, but I am stunned at how people are so willing to accept bad service and not say anything - WTF is that all about? - I mean, you would complain about rotten fruit in a grocery store, no?
BigSister · 12/07/2006 10:02

Yes I KNOW it´s ridiculous..The problem I guess is you chat to the girl for an hour or so then it feels uncomfortable to point out that they´re doing a crap job. Remember it´s ONLY the polish that´s been a problem... It´s all very personal isn´t it, saying she´s incompetent. Not at all the same as saying a piece of fruit is rotton..

Well if you've had a good chat, there should be no problem asking her to redo something, especially if you can see the first one or two are not fabulously done - catch her before she does all of them badly - the polish is actually the quickest part, and she will, more than likely, be quite happy to do it again, and if she not, tough!
