Boot agony

Yesterday I brought some new boots and having worn them to school this morning I'm now in agony.

Firstly I have one foot bigger then the other so one I can feel moving around when I walk but the worst is they seem tight around ankles so I can't wear thicker sock to make the size better as it would not it in and where the zip goes up side of leg the leather crinkles in and the zip is rubbing like mad. This is only the second pair of knee high boots I have owned please tell me that they will stop hurting soon. Slightly big on one foot I can cope with but not pain.

Dh cross at me saying I should have tried them on better in shop but in the shop is nothing like wearing them in real life.

This is why I hate buying new things because they cost a fortune but for me something is always wrong argh!

Where did you buy them from?? Maybe you can return them still? I wore a pair of shoes on a night out and then returned them after (they were faulty in my opinion) but it is worth a try. Esp if today is the first day you've worn them!! Most places don't really want the hassle of arguing with you so will just take them back.

It is tough to say whether they will stop hurting or not but I doubt it is worth the risk - you'll be unlikely to want to wear them again as they have caused you pain. I'd say - try and return them.

What boots are they BTW? I was considering posting a thread asking people to help me find some boots - I won't completely hijack your thread, I'll still consider posting my own!

They are from debenhams but I did have a long discussion with the shop assistant as I felt in shop the heel dropping but she checked length and said fine and that it might be that I have a narrow heel. I think I should have thought at that point not to get them but I was just so relieved at finding some that looked nice and fitted my calves. They may be sore as my calves are bigger so the fabric having to stretch. The shop assistant advised me to wear thicker socks on that foot to stop the slip. The boots are these.

Also I tried once before to return a pair that I thought wore faulty after wearing to sole trader and they would not take them so I don't think debenhams will of just down to fit.

Well the shoes I returned last Christmas were from Debenhams. I was so surprised as they were worn and when I had bought them they had no box - so I just walked in with a pair of worn shoes, no tags no box or anything and they just took them back! So might be worth a try. They do look really nice so it is a shame they don't fit. Worth a try to return them??

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 10:49

Great thanks for the advice, let's hope so.

id try to return them as well. unless you think they would wear in? ive had boots with similar foot shape and if the leather I stiff they need to give before they are comfortable.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 13/11/2013 11:35

You could put an insert in the boot that's too big, but I don't think there's anything you can do about the zip rubbing. Isn't the zip covered by a bit of material on the inside?
Have you tried wearing them with thick tights - that's the only thing I can think of that might help.

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 11:38

Thanks the zip is covered by material but it kind of crinkles in a way that makes it dig right into leg I'm hoping this will give and then an insole in one foot may be all it needs. I have been looking for boots since September but struggle with fit as calves are bigger and was so happy to get some. Maybe I'm after a perfect fit that doesn't exist.

How big are your calves holidayseeker? I can recommend m&s for boots, including for those with larger calves.Cheaper too!

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 13/11/2013 12:11

A friend has just bought some nice boots in Sainsburys which fit my very wide calves - about £50 for a pair.

If you're flush, check out Duo's wide calved boots - they're expensive, but I have two pairs (black and brown) which were £120 each, but which I've had for about 10 years. They've been re-heeled, and the zip broke in one after about 5 years, but Duo replaced it for £15.

I think I'd take the boots back and say there's a design fault - the material crinkles and makes your leg sore. They can't really argue with that.

NorthernLurker · 13/11/2013 12:16

I agree, take them back and explain that the leather is creasing inwards and forcing the zip against your leg. They don't fit and the assistant should have noticed this. You've nothing to lose.

btw i have wide calves and have been delighted with the Clarks National sugar boots this year. They aren't knee high though.

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 12:17

Well they are too big for normal size but too small for wide fitting. I brought some from m&s before and loved them but this year my local store either had ones that were too tight on calves or too floppy by ankles. The pair I did like didn't have my size so I brought these.

OP posts:
holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 13:03

I'm a bit nervous to take them back should I pretend I haven't worn them as can't really tell.

OP posts:
Yankeedoodlenic · 13/11/2013 13:13

Maybe just fib & say you only wore them around the house or something. But yeah, if it isn't obvious they aren't going to know! It is in their interest to keep you happy as a customer as personally the shop assistant working the till probably doesn't give a flip anyway!!

I'd say return them & keep looking - otherwise your nice, expensive boots will just take up valuable space in the cupboard/wardrobe/etc. I've just been out looking for boots and Jones the Bootmaker has an offer on - between £15 & £30 off various sizes and they had stickers on them saying "available in various calf sizes" so maybe they do something inbetween a normal & a wide fit!

Good luck!

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 13/11/2013 13:16

I brought some lovely boots from asda of all places £40 for black or brown leather knee length boots. large elasticated panel so easy to zip up on larger calves. they fit my slightly bigger than average calves and my sister has them and they fit her 46cm calves fine too.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 13/11/2013 13:21

Those are nice, Dontlet

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 13:38

Thanks I'm going to go after work hopefully dh will finish in tome to stay with dc so they don't have to tag along.

It's so disappointing because I liked them but it is risky they won't get better I was just thinking I might say I've been wearing them round in house and noticed the pain and hope they don't look too closely at sole even though I have only had them on for like 10 mins then took them off now at work as uncomfortable.

OP posts:
Yankeedoodlenic · 13/11/2013 13:48

I'm sure they'll take them back but of course, let us all know how it goes!

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 13:54

Will do

OP posts:
alemci · 13/11/2013 15:13

I think you are ok if you haven't worn them outside or on wood floors. I have slim feet and find boden boots reasonable. could you put an innersole in the big one?

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 18:38

Well I got home from work and wiped them down and no marks and had only properly walked in them for 10 mins because I took them off at work and they took them back. Checked the soles and didn't say anything.

So now I have my money back but no boots to where to work. Looked round all the local shops and could not find any that fit right. I seem to have a high top of foot that they are all too tight on for some reason.

OP posts:
Middleagedmotheroftwo · 13/11/2013 20:19

Try the Sainsbo's ones. They looked like the ones posted from ASDA.

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 20:21

Thanks I'll have a look. Also looking at ankle boots as well now to see if any better.

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 13/11/2013 20:49

There are loads of nice ankle boots around - and usually £30-40 cheaper than full length. I've just been to collect my second pair of mid calf ones from Clarks Blush

holidayseeker · 13/11/2013 20:53

Northern which boots did you get another pair of clarks?
