Apparently I am 'warm, soft and deep' (they've stopped doing seasons but I would be autumn)
Which means I must ditch my pink and blue (always thought blues and raspberries ok on me) and try out coral, salmon pink, mustard, reds and oranges....
not sure about this at all. At least all my taupes and beige/chocolate/khaki stuff is ok...
I have mid brown hair (dyed, quite auburny now), green/grey eyes but VERY PALE freckly skin - never ever tan, always burn. That's the bit I'm confused about - orange/red/yellow on skin so pale it looks blue??

You sound like me - and I never wear mustards or coral or salmon. Mind you, I don't wear much pink or blue either. Colours that suit me (I think) are greens - from quite aqua-y type greens down to darker greens, browns, khaki, taupe - and I do wear red from time to time. And black of course

Coral and salmon pink?

Cloudberries · 10/07/2006 11:48

Doesn't sound quite right to me either, though the right shade of red can look stunning with your colouring. I personally would stick to the chocolate/khaki etc and maybe try on the other colours in a shop before buying a new wardrobe!

at warm, soft and deep. bring back the old decscriptions!

i ignore many of the colours that were suggested to me (think i'm aboutbthe same as you - was soft autumn) - ok, so mustard might be flattering to your skin tone, but it doesn;t stop it being repulsive! agree with others - stick with the colours you like on the chart.

also - remember - it's only important what colours are close to your face. i'm supposed to avoid black but often wear black trousers or skirt with an "appropriate" colour on top.

If you have auburny hair and freckly skin, then warm colours will definitely be better IMO. But not too bright, the softer colours will look better. My MIL had her colours done earlier this year, and is also warm and soft. Previously she had worn quite a few colours like pale blue and black which didn't do much for her. Now she is trying some of her new colours, and looks really great in them, especially things like moss green, chocolate brown, and creamy beige colours.

I would try to pick the colours from your new palette that you like best to start with, and add some other ones in later. Also if you are trying a new colour and you're not sure about it, then buy something inexpensive, like a t shirt first, rather than spending a lot on a major item in your wardrobe.

yay! another autumnal person!

I was as unsure as you, though my shockers were No Black No Grey. Coral was a revelation, but I haven't got the guts to wear yellow, and still wear more greens/browns/tans than actual oranges.

Pale skin actually gets 'warmed up' by these colours hence looks less pale than it does in blues & pinks, so it's not as daft as it sounds.

Dorothy Perkins have cheapy cheapy t-shirts in all sorts of colours including a very good coral and a nice teal. Spend £10 and wear them with brown trousers as an experiment. You may decide you like them after all!

Shudder indeed at mustard. What about French mustard?? Am similar colouring and the words "salmon" and "coral" are not in my wardrobe vocabulary. The "Style" woman in teh Obsever poo pooed all this colour nonsense yesterday.

elliott · 10/07/2006 15:11

ACtually quite like mustard
Can see that pale blue and ice pink probably not my best choices, but I thought I was pretty safe with mid blue/raspberry type colours.
And sometimes I think taupe/stone makes me look rather washed out...
But hey ho, I'll give anything a whirl - just have to trust that my friends will be honest about the results!
