Is this dress nice for a winter wedding - soon after giving birth?

I'm due to have a baby in, well, could be any minute tbh.... I've a winter wedding to attend in December - have no idea what my body will be doing - my bump is very 'localised' if that makes sense and I have some serious spanx to help matters. Is this dress nice enough? I thought I'd go all 1940s with it and have a 1940s hair do, pearls, t-bar shoes and a fur shrug of some sort. This is my first baby so clearly I'm clueless about baby sick / dark dress etc, but figure any dress will be likely to come a cropper! Honest views please! My usual dress size is 10 below and 12 on top, but who knows what it will be then...the sizing for this dress if reasonably generous according to their sizing chart

I like it, don't think you will need the shrug though!

Ruralninja · 12/11/2013 19:21

Just instead of a coat maybe? But not for inside....agree with you there....

Yes, I like it. Looks like it should be worn with red lipstick, which is always my first port of call when I feel knackered (not saying you will, just in case Wink )

Is the baby coming to the wedding? Will it give you easy enough access to boob, if you're breastfeeding? Either way, bring lots of muslins not only to drape over your clothes but those of anyone else holding the infant...

MrsCampbellBlack · 12/11/2013 20:52

Well, it depends. Are you planning on bf and will baby be with you because I'd have massively struggled to feed in that dress.

I'd wait until a week before the wedding and see what size you are then to be honest - its just so hard to tell in advance.

Gorgeous dress and I love the sound of the vintage styling.....but...

Are you tall? That dress would be desperately unflattering on my short arse.

I think a certain degree of 'willowy' would be required to pull it off.

AlexaChelsea · 12/11/2013 20:57

Real unusual, love it.

DH and I had a winter wedding and it snowed. I was cold!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/11/2013 20:57

I saw some lovely fur wraps in Zara on Sat.....

PrimalLass · 12/11/2013 21:05

Not keen, but I seem to be the only one Blush I think you could do better for £180.

MrsLettuce · 12/11/2013 21:08

That's stunning!

But, TBH I think baby + velvet is not going to be a good combo, at all.

HyvaPaiva · 12/11/2013 21:15

I love the concept of the dress but the execution, not so much. It looks cheaply cut (the buttons are really squint for instance) for £180. A 1940s style velvet dress, yes, absolutely gorgeous idea. That very dress? No.

Absolutely lovely.

Will work well with a fur shrug.

Baby will destroy anything you wear anyway, just have lots of muslins to hand.

No idea about BFing as I FF both mine.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/11/2013 21:32

If you are planning on breastfeeding during the day, then this has a 1940's style?

I know it's shortsleeved but you could add a little fake fur bolero and some this black tights to warm yourself up.

Also I terms of £'s per wear it would take you across a few seasons? You are unlikely to wear Brown Velour much past April realistically.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 12/11/2013 21:32

sorry here is the link

Ruralninja · 13/11/2013 03:05

ooh sorry this thread went all busy when I wasn't looking! I am planning to BF but you're all right, I don't know if it will be possible as this would be an online purchase. I am 5 foot 8, so length-wise I'm hoping it's OK, esp with heels though I get that it's a 'difficult' length.... hmmm food for thought here.... just fancied something a bit different and I feel I have Russian shotputter upper arms, so keen on the sleeves....

Wally that is a lovely dress, but as I say I feel a bit 'hench' in the upper arm and shoulder department, plus I have an ill-advised tattoo from my misspent youth, so sleeves required!

It is a lovely dress. But velvet is a pita to spot clean if you leak and/or get baby sick on you, the velvet will look funny while it is wet, sort of dark and patchy and take ages to dry. Either take a big scarfy thing to drape over yourself to hide any soggy patches or go for a quick drying fabric.

You might also still be bleeding so I'd possibly plan on taking a spare outfit for yourself as well as the baby.
