I know it's been discussed a lot but I can't just find the thread I'm looking for.

For those that remove their own bikini hair please can you give me your tips to avoid ingrown hairs & itching?

I know salon waxing is best but I can't afford to keep going. What's your best home methods?

Exfoliate every time you have a bath/shower. I resorted to laser hair removal in the end, coz I get ingrown hairs and pick at them until they scar whatever I do!

RollerCola · 12/11/2013 08:06

Can you recommend a good exfoliator?

Also, I've heard that a roll-on deodorant helps to sooth skin after hair removal - does anyone do this? Should you do it straight after? Is there anything else that stops soreness after?

i go to salon if possible but sometimes wax at home, i find veet strips are very good for this but if i try to do ny legs it takes ages and i use loads as one strip doesn't seem to work twice!

Sudocrem is great for everything Grin how did I manage without it all those years, pre children.

sweetheart · 12/11/2013 15:02

I use Veet - never had a problem and a great result every time.

Even with salon waxing you'll get itching/ingrown hairs. I use Skin Doctors 'ingrow go' or Tend Skin. Both are liquids you apply with cotton wool, and they are magic at getting rid of rashes etc.

I second the advice about exfoliating in the shower, too.

icingmyback · 12/11/2013 17:58

i've had laser but my old flatmate swore by baby oil to prevent ingrowns.

RollerCola · 12/11/2013 19:25

So sudocrem - straight after shaving to prevent? Or to treat the soreness after it starts? Or both I guess.

And any recommended exfoliating cream? Just any old one from boots?

I always use veet cream. Works really well. And easier to use then wax

I had laser hair removal which I got for £99 for 6 sessions through a Groupon deal. (It would have cost almost £1000 otherwise) 18 months later, none of the hair has grown back, so definitely worth it in my opinion.

Before that, I used Cirepil wax which you heat in a kiln then simply peel off your skin when it sets. I never experienced ingrown hairs with this method, which I found was much kinder to the skin than using wax strips.
