Is this a nice dress for a Big Party? If not, what is?

black dress

I am looking for something to wear to my (shh) 50th b/day party early next year. I am size 14 or so, big boobs (so no strapless!) and 5ft 6 tall. Don't want maxi really as I am not that tall. OTOH I do want to lok glamorous and fab in a way I never normally do.

Oh and I'd like to do it for £100 ish!

TIA x

Clary that is frumpy! (And I'm old).

Billy that purple one's lovely. :)

I haven't but I know someone who has. IIRC she likes them and has massive norks.

Hello ladies updating much later than I had planned but yesterday nabbed this in the sale. It looks nicer on than it does in the picture tbh. £90 is a bit £££ but it's a good reduction! Even the kids liked it Grin

Best news was that having lost more than a stone doing the 5:2 I had to try on size 10s Shock every time! Hope you all like it - you see I did follow your ideas

While on the subject of dresses.... need a full length evening gown for black tie dinner in March. Am 50, 5 7 and hopefully size 14 by then. I really really want an elegant, beaded, Downtown Abbey type dress. No frills or flounces or bows...can anyone help. Fed up with googling all the usual suspects.

burnishedsilver · 29/12/2013 22:29

You're too young for the dress you've chosen. As you are the birthday girl you shouldn't be hiding in black. Go for colour. There are some fabulous suggestions above.

Tractorandtree · 29/12/2013 22:34

Op I like the one you've chosen Smile

demented how about this one? I think it's quite downton-esque

Sorry Clary, I was taking about your original choice. I didn't see the second page of replies! The one you've bought is lovely.

dementedma · 30/12/2013 18:00

Thanks tractor but that one is out of my budget!
