a few months ago I became a single mum Sad , I'm relaunching myself I suppose and have starting wearing makeup every day (where as before it was only on special occasions)

I'm really enjoying embracing this girlyness. I tend to bb cream, a pinky eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and a lipgloss.

My mascara seems to 'grey' onto my lower lids (looks like I've smudge it, but I haven't). Any tips? Do I need to try another brand? I don't want anything too heavy, but like how mascara opens my eyes.

Also tips on applying eyeliner. I think I look silly with it too thick. I have a felt tip like one which I'm getting the hang of (I think!)

Also recommendations for the under eye area. I'm guessing a reflecting con sealer, any recommendations?

Any tips on your quick morning makeup would be great.

I've found that my mascara smudges either if it's just not right for me, or if I've got oily products (such as moisturiser, greasy makeup remover or similar) on my lashes before applying the mascara.
I like Guerlain Le 2 Volume and Clinique. La Roche-Posay are also good.
I cannot recommend Guerlain Maxi Lash (smudges like mad) and Mac (make my lashes really stiff, brittle and uncomfortable).

I use gel eyeliner and a brush, so can't really help with the eyeliner. I do however find that sitting down while applying liner is easier as I can support my elbow on the table.

Light reflecting concealer is great for darker areas around the eyes, but if you have bags under the eye, use a normal concealer instead. I can't recommend any as I don't use this - sorry.

My quick morning makeup is:
Foundation or tinted moisturiser/BB cream.
Powder to set foundation/tinted moisturiser/BB cream.
Lipstick or other lip product.
Blusher - same colour/tone as lip product as this ties the look together.
Usually a slightly shimmery eyeshadow in the same colour as my skin.
Mascara
If I have time, I like using a push brush and a dark brown eyeshadow. It's applied between the lashes and it makes my lashes look fuller and darker, and isn't as harsh as liner can be. It's also much quicker for me.

Ooh the push brush sounds like something I'd like to try.

I'd love to hear how you ladies manage to look glam and have kiddies ?! Wink

I'm now back at work and really enjoying putting make-up on everyday. I don't consider myself that girly but I do like being able to change my face (so to speak) with a bit of colour. I just didn't get a chance to use it much when on mat leave and the only time I can now is on the train in the morning! Love it though - it's my playtime Smile.

I use a bit of mineral foundation (I pre-load my brush the night before to save taking the pot with me) on my t-zone, concealer under the eyes, bit of highlighter pen on my cheekbones, cream blush and bit of contouring. If I feel like it I might put some dark brown eye-liner on - makes a big difference but you can't really see it, so it looks more natural and a bit of mascara.

Occasionally I ring the changes and use navy blue eyeliner smudged a bit - it brings out my brown eyes or I might gently blend some reddish/brown eyeshadow into the socket line.

I love www.lisaeldridge.com she has loads of videos and tips and has really improved my make-up skills!

I don't have kids (I apply my slap on the train Grin.

yes you need a different mascara try a collection 2000 one (as I don't believe in spending loads for one you'll wear to work and only lasts (so they say) 3 months.

I do eyeliner under my eyes (lashline) use Bare Minerals Espresso - I think it's Big and bright (but for blue eyes) - I sometimes fart around and do top lids but not often. ensure you smudge it.

YSL gel lip stains are said by someone here to last well.
I don't wear eyeshadow during day.
creme blush is good - MAC do a nice one or Maybelline.
I use Clinique Air Brush/Air Flash under eyes for circles - my godsend.

also I use Clinique even better compact makeup which is creme foundation which dries to a powder it has SPF15 in it too. AMAZING. I've touched pan in it (eg it's come almost to an end) which is a rarity for me.

Lipgloss is good but it does wear off - have you thought about a nice lipstick? MAC do great ones and finishes. bound to be one there for you.

PS - Navy Blue eyeliner (Body Shop do one) or mascara also apparently helps you looking less tired. BONUS

HelloBoys · 08/11/2013 16:12

another one - MAC Shroom is a nice shimmery natural eyeshadow.

Liquid eyeliner by barry m is stuff of the gods, it doesn't budge even when i get punched in the face boxing and sweat like a fiend.

Like HelloBoys, I don't have children and also apply my slap on the train. When cleansing in the morning I apply a BB cream for light coverage and get out the door asap. I don't powder because it settles in my pores and wrinkles and make me look older.

On the train I apply a light coloured eyeshadow to my eyes to lighten them up. Smoky looks don't work on my droopy lidded deepset blue eyes (took me 20 years to admit that) but I sparkle with some light pinky beige. Pinky beige is really hard to find - most shadows are beige or pink but not both. I am picky.

I use an eyebrow pencil because my eyebrows are light coloured and a bit sparse so can get a bit loss given my hair colour. I smudge the colour as I am not a fan of the drawn with a felt tip look.

I also have that problem with the mascara so would be interested in responses. I manage with waterproof eyeshadow as I think some of it is blurring due to moisture in the English air combined with perspiration in a stinky warm office. I buy cheap and swap often because it clumps after a few months no matter which formulation I buy.

I put a deep pink colour on my lips with Rimmel's 1000 Kisses lip pencil (which is superb - lasts all day). I like my pouty lips - probably one of my best features and as I have deep pink hair they match. I put a bit of lip balm on the top.

It all takes about 5 to 10 minutes on a bouncy train.

If you keep on trying new things when you get bored you will eventually come up with a whole range of looks that are great for you and make the best of your face bits.
:)

I used to have the problem of mascara smudging (I have oily skin) but use Estee Lauder Double Wear. Amazing stuff. Waterproof, doesn't flake and doesn't smudge. I wear contacts as well and it doesn't irritate me either. Not cheap but worth it.

I wasn't particularly good at eyeliner until I watched those videos. A good tip I saw was to try and draw little dots in between the eyleashes and then use a cotton bud / little finger to smudge. Works a treat and looks more natural.

Deathwatchbeetle · 09/11/2013 15:25

Barry M do a nice eyeliner pencil. As I cannot see very well without my specs (eyemake up magnifying glasses not good) I would rather use a pencil that can be smudged if I bugger it up than a liquid one. I always use waterproof mascara as my eyes are teary. SOme so called waterproof do smudge or flake but collection (was collection 2000) are good.
