help! my jeans keep growing.

Bought a pair of skinny jeans from gap (99% cotton 1% elastane) they fit nicely for about 30 mins then just got bigger and bigger throughout the day!

I gave up with them and gave them away to my mam who is 2-3 sizes bigger than me and they fit her.

So...bought a pair of new look skinnies (98% cotton 2% elastane) and the same thing has happened although over a longer period. Should I size down? Should I pour myself into tiny ones?
Should I look at different brands?

OP I knew it! You're exactly the same as me and I think this is why I can't get jeans that actually hold up, or don't go really baggy around the bum. I have a waist, but it's really high, so jeans/trousers just don't fit properly. People assume cos I'm slim, that I shouldn't have a problem finding jeans to fit nicely, but it's all about shape and it really really pisses me off! I think the problem is, most women's trousers are generally made to fit women who have an hour glass figure or pear shaped, but not apple or boyish. Horrible question OP, but do you find that you also have to avoid the much hated and dreaded camel toe? I hate this! It's because we have to wear our trousers a little higher on our hips and it's NOT a good look. I tend to wear more skirts now

Trip, I really don't think so. I think you'll find that women who have an hourglass figure, with all the curves in the 'right' place have a much easier time of buying clothes that fit properly. It's not just jeans we apples/boyish figures have a tough time wearing, it's dresses too. I love clothes, but I hate clothes shopping! I'm a size 10 and wouldn't be considered overweight, like OP, but when it comes to trousers, or dresses, I really struggle to find anything which looks right. I can get away with a skater dress maybe, cos they flare out and are synched in at the waist. If I worse a shift dress for example, I'd look utterly hideous.

Jeans are made for skinny straigh up and down types, lots of threads on here about searching for jeans for curvy women. I can't get jeans to fit, they always gap hideously around the waist and if you wear a belt then there's an attractive rushing effect that looks like I'm wearing an elasticated waist. Nice!

I will concede that dresses are generally Ok to buy for me but shirts are never fitted enough around the waist, or gape at the chest. I always wonder if the clothes on makeover shows are actually tailored to fit the real curves of the people they makeover.

Suspicious - It is very hard to buy clothes as an hourglass .

I have a petite hourglass figure (38"-25"-38" and 5'1ish), so most people I've moaned to about this assume that I'm being overly critical and most things look nice on me. In reality, having wide hips and a small, high waist presents so many problems: it's impossible to find jeans that are both wide enough for my hips and small enough for my waist (they always gape at the back), skirts either gape at the waist or sit so high that my boobs are practically resting on the waistband, and anything shorter than mid-thigh looks slutty on me because I have a sticky-outy bum and things try to ride up to my waist. The big boobs just add another level of difficulty: low cut necklines = slutty whereas slightly higher cut necklines = matronly; blouses either gape at the bust or billow like maternity smocks around my waist; the waistband-as-boobshelf issue is ever-present; and anything stretchy ends up stretched out of shape and bobbly very quickly. It makes "business dress" very difficult - I pretty much have to wear shift dresses and tights for any formal occasion.

I pretty much stick to wearing straight cut jeans, fitted-but-drapey tops in thin fabrics with low necklines which I layer with higher-cut vest tops, and 1950s wiggle dresses for nights out while hoping desperately that the 1990s grunge revival doesn't push tight and stretchy clothes out of highstreet shops...

Clothes are not cut for hourglasses.Us hourglasses (real ones anyway) have a bloom in nightmare finding clothes that fit properly.

Straight up and downs have it easy.In fact,most clothes are designed in style for those who are straight up and down too!

I have an hourglass figure and I cannot buy trousers to fit. The only ones that remotely work are high waisted jeggings, and then only from New Look for some unknown reason. Clothes are simply not cut to curve in the way I do. In general (according to store charts) they are cut to a moderate pear, so, say a 10 might go 34, 26, 37.

My waist is currently... [measures] 27" and my bust and low hip are both around 41". There are no off the peg clothes that are cut in this way! If it goes over my hips it's 2-3 sizes too big around my waist.

I have to wear skirts and vests most of the time, or halter tops. I don't even like halter tops.

I think tbh, from conversations, off the peg clothes just don't really fit anybody? Everybody I know tells me precisely what is wrong with their body that means it's hard to buy clothes that fit. Even my friend who is a size 8 ex model! I think maybe it's not us. I think it's the clothes.

Don't buy jeans from Gap although I love my real straight
Buy jeans a size down, they should feel snug in the shop.
Get the highest elastane content. M and S jeggings are very good IMO dispute the name!

I'm going to have to defend gap jeans I'm afraid. Although I will concede that some colour ways do stretch more than others. But on the whole I find them them really good.

Gap used to do good jeans - I've got some really old ones that keep their shape even though they are about to disintegrate with age, but I've had no luck their recently.

I bought some of the Lana body shape jeans - when I tried them on I thought I'd found the perfect jeans. Thankfully I didn't buy up loads as, after wearing them for a couple of hours, they went all baggy and I'm forever hoiking them up.

Last time I tried on Gap jeans instore I found the perfect fit but in the wrong colour. When I tried that same size and style in the colour I liked they were a completely different fit

I inherited / was passed on a pair if not your daughters jeans (NYDJ). They are amazing, have not fallen down, look amazing and I have worn them probably 5 out if 7 days since May.

But they are £150 to buy new (I thought, naively, that they were 'expensive' but to my mind that was £60, not £150...) and they are starting to show overwear (though they've not come down once)

Size 16-18 here usually, still in search of the perfect jean...

Best jeans I have found are Tescos from last year. Bought them in 14 even though I'm usually 14-16, so they can be a bit snug to start with, but within 10 minutes they fit well and don't fall down anywhere as much as previous jeans.

They're high enough on the waist that I don't get the muffin top/builders bum thing, although I do wear a belt, and I have them in lots of colours, but the dark non-denim colours seem looser than the indigo and grey. Hoping they have the same ones this year as I chopped some into Capri pants in the summer!
