I need a very naice 'Mum' gift for a colleague - about £50

She is a colleague and not a friend, we only have a professional relationship.

She's about to go on Maternity leave and I won't see her again for over a year - won't meet the baby, won't find out its sex.

But I need a nice gift for her to say goodbye as she's been a great help to me.

Any ideas?

Jo Malone?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/11/2013 14:56

Can you use heavily perfumed stuff round new babies Confused

I love Jo Malone stuff and she's dropped/sold her original label and started up on her own again with 'Jo Loves'

Voucher for facial or massage

squeaver · 05/11/2013 14:59

Oh sorry, I see, it's a present for a new mum (didn't read OP properly - duh).

What about that stuff they do in JL - is it called Mamma Mio, or something..?

PS Didn't know that about Jo Malone.

HormonalHousewife · 05/11/2013 14:59

As Liberty said facial or massage.

Or white company smells, candles or cashmere bed socks are fab !

squeaver · 05/11/2013 15:01

this stuff Not sure it's appropriate now I'm looking at it.

squeaver · 05/11/2013 15:01

Oh bed socks - that's a great idea. For long winter night feeds.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/11/2013 15:05

I love the bed socks idea. Not too personal, but not shit or disposable.

I'm off to look round Brora/Toast Smile

John Lewis Voucher? That way she can either get baby stuff or treat herself.

HormonalHousewife · 05/11/2013 15:09

The white company do them for about £30 and I have a code AC852 for 10 % off .

I don't work for then honestly - just love going in there !

fanjobiscuits · 05/11/2013 15:39

Jo Malone air freshner for the 'poo room'?

Tinlegs · 05/11/2013 15:44

Photo frames. You never have enough when the baby is born and can never get enough of looking at photos of your baby.

AmberNectarine · 05/11/2013 15:45

Diptyque candle?

newgirl · 05/11/2013 15:49

White co voucher/robe/bath stuff

hettie · 05/11/2013 16:36

A range of yummy meals from here (although you might not know if she has a freezer?). I was so so grateful to a lovely freind who bought round some M&S meals when ds was little.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 05/11/2013 19:22

I would do her a small basket of goodies with a relaxing candle, a little bottle of sparkly wine, bubble bath, small box of posh cookies or chocs, a nice hand cream, a few small photo frames and perhaps a nice silky nightie / chemise. Its a reminder that she is still a lovely woman despite the tired sore and frankly 'mummy' stuff you end up dissolving into.

sugarandspite · 05/11/2013 19:27

Posh hand cream is lovely - she'll be washing her hands tons so useful as well as luxury.

Agree with cashmere bed socks too. Neals Yard do a nice new mum set which is carefully thought through - no strong perfumes, bath oil to help sleep etc it's £35 here and they also have a lovely mother and baby one for £45

Maverick66 · 05/11/2013 21:03

What about a gorgeous warm wrap for round her shoulders when breast feeding at night or for privacy when feeding in public Tk Maxx should have something gorgeous in that price range.

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2013 21:14

white company dressing gown

or vouchers for John Lewis or Jojo Maman Bebe (I now tend to buy new mothers one of these as it's stupidly useful, throw it in a normal bag and you've suddenly got a changing bag, or put it in your car/under the pram and you're terribly organised. I currently have one in our downstairs loo for when I can't be arsed taking DD up to her room to change her)

Or a hamper of things, including one of those thermos cups with lids, hand cream (you spend so much time washing your hands with a newborn!), hair repair stuff, posh chocolates...

pudtat · 05/11/2013 21:17

I was going to say lovely wrap scarf thing - useful for feeding and good afterwards too.
