What to do about bad skin on chest and neck?

This is so grim, but I get spots on my chest/ cleavage area and neck. What can I do about them?

I exfoliate fairly regularly but nothing else. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I was wearing a blouse i really like to work today but realised it showed off my bad skin and just felt :(

Have you seen the GP? Probably a good first port of call.

MikeLitoris · 04/11/2013 22:34

I get this and use Duac on prescription from my gp. I tried antibiotics but didnt see any difference after a 3 month course.

Use a nice gentle shower gel/body wash, one from a health food shop, or REN if you can afford it. The skin on my back erupts if I use any of the harsh Radox/Palmolive type shower gels.
Also, i discovered there is such a thing as a back facial, which is expensive but sorts my back out for months.
Another tip is not to rinse your hair over your body, especially the conditioner because that will coat you in greasy pore-blocking slime.

I must add, a friend of mine reported a complete disappearance of her back spots when she got her hair cut into a short bob. She concluded her hair had been spreading bacteria around her back, although it could also be conditioner-related.

BOF - GP, seriously? For pimples? Sorry, but that seems way ott!

Alf I think you may be right as my hair is bobbed and I don't get them on back of neck or back. May try the lemon and cotton pad thing.

Oh and I use Simple shower gel

Well yes, because Duac is the bollocks, and you can only get it on prescription. Also, there's always the possibility that it is a symptom of something else like PCOS.

CaurnieBred · 05/11/2013 00:21

I suffer from this. I always bodywash in the shower after I have shampooed and conditioned as that helps get rid of the conditioner residue. I also use my facial wash on my neck and chest area which is soap free. This seems to help.

Mummyoftheyear · 05/11/2013 02:57

Are the spots predominantly around your jaw line n neck? If so, could be hormonal. I agree with suggestion of going to your doc. They may well b able to help.

LittleTulip · 05/11/2013 07:36

I have terrible hormonal back acne and the odd pimple on my chest/cleavage area. Used Zineryt which is antibiotic based - didn't work very well for me.

Now on benzoyl peroxide 5% gel and it is amazing!! Have heard Duac is also great - to the poster who said antibiotics didn't work for them I'm pretty certain Duac contains clindamycin as the active antibiotic.

I regularly dry exfoliate and moisturise as well. You can buy benzoyl peroxide from any chemist.

AlfalfaMa · 05/11/2013 13:39

Sorry op, I misread 'neck' as 'back' so went on and on irrelevantly about back spots Blush

On another note, Simple shower gel is actually quite harsh the bastards! and is another of the ones I reacted badly to; do try washing the affected area with something more gentle for a while and see if that helps, maybe face wash as suggested by poster above.
If you spray perfume to your chest/neck area that could also be causing irritation.

RevoltingPeasant · 05/11/2013 14:04

BOF, goodness, that's really worrying. I have been ttc for some time without success Confused

Definitely not going to take any medications for it though, no matter what. It's just a few pimples which can be covered by concealer if necessary.

Mummy, they are mostly around sides of neck and on chest. Not all the time, they come and go. Don't use perfume regularly and nowhere else on my body is affected despite using shower gel all over.

Am worried about PCOS now, off to google!

Forgot to say, thank you all!

Please don't worry but I'd go to doc and insist on blood test for hormonal related stuff. Let me know what it turns out to be ;)

I don't get spots but i can get congestion on my chest and boobs and Origins men's charcoal shower gel works with a shower puff. This is the only ne that has for me, it also leaves my skin incredibly soft. I would agree with the poster who said an exfoliating toner, treat it like ou would facial spots, oil for oil and exfoliate maybe try liquid gold on it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/11/2013 08:53

GP are used to seeing people for spots. It's nothing unusual to them.
