Alternative to Hunter wellies?

I love my Hunter wellies but they are rather tight on my chunky calves and they rub really badly on one ankle where the rubber bends. This has always been an issue (I've had them a couple of years) but seems to be worse now, I guess as the rubbers got used to bending in one place.
I need to replace them, I use them mainly for muddy walks, I wondered about neoprene Hunters but the Amazon reviews mostly say that they don't last 5 minutes since production was moved to China and if I'm paying £100 odd for a pair of wellies I expect to get years out of them!
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good wellie with a generous calf width for me please? The branding doesn't matter (though I am shallow enough to have loved my Hunters!)

Ive had my Tesco wellies for about 6 years and they get no end of abuse but I'm guessing you're looking for something a bit more high end? Grin

Bogs

Don't be tempted with Joules ones - I've had 2 pairs and both pairs cracked round the ankles in no time.
(First pair replaced by Joules, I couldn't be bothered complaining again after second pair).

I bought Merrel provez (I think!!) last winter they are waterproof boots I find walkies not good enough fir all walking we do waded through ankle deep water in these still had warm dry feet! I git them fir about £80 half price from sports direct I think Grin

Le Chameau - fantastic. Neoprene-lined, vibram-soled. I absolutely love mine. Expensive (over a hundred quid - eye-watering for me, I never spend anything like that on footwear usually! They were an unusually extravagant Xmas present from DH) but I have had them for 7 years, wear them loads, and they are still as new.

My Town and Country willies are comfy - you've got a bit of adjustment to fit comfy calves in, and great flexible rubber still going strong several years later!

DH has these:

They were a fortune but they have lasted and he practically lives in them (farmer).

Muck boots

Warm, waterproof, and stretchy round calf

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 05/11/2013 22:57

There is a more basic brand made by hunter called 'lowther' they are unisex so generous of calf and a third of the price

Victoria3012 · 05/11/2013 23:03

Ilse Jacobsen. I have Hunter and ilse wellies and the ilse Jacobsen are far superior.

cressetmama · 06/11/2013 06:36

Another vote for Ilse Jacobsen... accommodating for calves, and better looking than most wellies; they are even presentable with (some) skirts.

impty · 06/11/2013 08:08

Le chameau, are truly the best wellies ever.

Le Chameau
Aigle
Muck Boot

Are the three brands to consider
