Uniqlo down coats?

So my North Face is on it's last legs and I really don't have the budget for another. Was looking at the uniqlo down one. Does anyone have one? Is it warm, will it get me through winter comfortably? Also what is sizing like, I'm a 14.

No I won't be wearing it out on the moors but need for the school run and then I walk to work after that, don't drive. I want something really warm and shower proof. Would love another NF but can't afford it! I want a down filled one. I don't like anything on Lands End Sad.

Like the zara one bunnymother.

hmm I saw some outdoorsy down coats in TK Maxx last year. Possibly north face, not sure. Might be worth a look there.

mine is last years version of this in burgundy. I also have a short white one still going strong 15 years onGrin

Love this! Think I'll call off the search. Thanks for all your help.

I think you need to have different coats for different weather conditions.
I have a Berghaus Gortex waterproof jacket and in really wet weather even it lets water in through some seams.

If you want waterproof and really warm then you need to look at 'outdoor' type coats from places like North Face, Berghaus, etc.

If you want just to stay warm then a down coat should do. Having said that I got caught in a very heavy shower last year in my Uniqlo down coat and the rain just dribbled off- I was still snug and warm.
I don't like the look of the Lands End ones- one is 3/4 length and the other one which is full length looks a bit frumpy. They also have the same filling- 600gms- as Uniqlo but are twice the price.

Yep I have a cheap Regatta waterproof that does the job but no warmth in it. My walk is not that long, 10 mins to school then 10 mins to work so i would rather prioritise warmth being on a buget!

And yes Loopyloulu I was really disappointed with Lands End for the price, the diagonal quilting just made them look a bit odd!

I like the FF one but I am not sure if it will be as warm as the Uniqlo- it has 50-50 down and feather whereas my Uniqlo one is (I think) 90% down which means it's warmer and lighter.

paperlantern · 05/11/2013 09:35

seriously marks and Spencer does the job

parrotsandcarsnips · 05/11/2013 11:09

Uniqlo coat v warm and light but as others have said not good in rain. I have not been brave enough to wash mine yet but really need to. Have u tried eBay for a cheaper north face?

bunnymother · 05/11/2013 12:08

I was just about to say that the FF one is only 50/50 feather to down, whereas I would want 80% down, and a good, thick filling of down at that, too. North Face helpfully tell you the amount of down they use, but my North Face jacket isn't as warm as my Zara one, as its more voluminous (no, less snug as well as being less flattering) and isn't fleece lined (more like a shiny polyester lining), although it is waterproof and windproof (the Zara one isn't waterproof). I'm starting to understand why I have a cupboard full of coats!

FracturedViewOfLife · 05/11/2013 17:05

I have the slightly shorter version of that fat face coat. I can't wear jumpers with it. I tried and I was far too hot. It is lovely and warm. I've worn it it the pouring rain and didn't get wet. The outside was slightly damp but dried quickly. I luffs it Grin

I ordered this yesterday. DH had a 30% voucher so I ended up getting it for around £72 and free delivery. Hope it fits the bill as it's well under budget!

Hope you like your coat OP! It looks lovely.

Just posting to thank the posters recommending tennis balls in the tumble dryer to 'fix' my down uniqlo coat - it has worked like a charm!

vannesath · 17/01/2014 07:02

After I washed my jacket and my 3 year old's in the washing machine for the very FIRST TIME I realized that they were looking weird... now I am so bummed, sad and mad that I followed instructions on the tags and they are practically ruined. I loved them but I just want to demand Uniqlo to put on the tags, HANDWASH ONLY and not machine wash at all. I am so mad. I follow instructions, washed them alone, delicate hand wash, hang them dripping water, etc. and nothing works now! What do I do UNIQLO?? Dry them with tennis balls?

bunnymother · 17/01/2014 09:50

I wash my children's down coats at least once a week (no idea why they always fall in the mud...) and I tumble dry them with dryer balls. The tennis balls I had were cheap and stank. So I used dryer balls and the coats come out fluffy.
