If you were going to get married in jeans which kind would you buy?

This is me in two weeks. I'd like to buy a really nice pair of jeans to wear for our wedding (just me, DP, kid).

If you had £150 - £200 to spend on jeans what would you buy? I like things that are scruffy

Nobody Cult skinnies are amazing....my favourite jeans. Paige jeans great too; my favourites are the Hoxton high-waisted skinnies, Jimmy Jimmy skinny boyfriend (probably too casual for a wedding though), or Skyline skinny.
If you can, go somewhere like Donna Ida or Selfridges, where there is lots of choice and advice.

If I was getting married in jeans I'd wear my favourite ones, not new ones. If you like scruffy things then why do you need a new pair anyway?

I don't really understand I have to admit.

'We have invited five close friends and obviously our two kids (2.6 and 14 months). We just wanted to get married all of a sudden, but can't be arsed with planning a wedding. We have no spare time, and it's hard enough getting time to go shopping for jeans let alone anything else!'

So you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot by going and buying a special pair of jeans.

The point being to save time, well, wear something you've already got.

I don't mean to sound unkind but it sounds a bit kind of pretentious otherwise?

I don't think it sounds pretentious at all Pato I'm not sure how someone wanting opinions on jeans can be seen as that. Just because the OP likes things that are scruffy and doesn't have much time doesn't mean they don't want their wedding to be special to them.

Pato that's not very nice.

There is a world of difference between buying a decent pair of jeans that will last for years, then buying a wedding dress with all the fittings etc that involves, that can only be worn once.

I'd vote for Seven for all Mankind, too.

I got married in jeans and don't regret it at all, btw. They were lovely ones, and I still wear them.

That's true Kelda. I am sorry if I have sounded unkind. I just didn't understand what the OP was doing it for iyswim.

Huitre I spent years buying jeans that didn't suit me before I discovered them, I could have cried with joy when I did! :)

And I didn't know that wedding dresses always require fittings and being made specially, I thought you could just go and buy one?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to wear jeans or anything at all for a wedding. And it will always be special whatever you wear.

I think it would be quite unusual to buy a wedding dress off the peg without at least some alterations to it. I had 3 fittings for mine and it was a pain in the arse to be honest. When I look back now, I spent a ridiculous amount of money on a dress that I wore for about 8 hours and has been lurking in my wardrobe ever since. I loved it but I wouldn't do it again. (Not that I'm thinking of marrying anyone else, I think DH may object). :)

I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the thread. Please carry on and ignore me, I am cranky this morning.

Don't be daft Pato! If it makes you feel better I am a grump this morning because I have a million things to do and yet I am sitting here mumsnetting wondering how I will fit it all in. Perhaps if I get off my derriere I might have a chance. :)

Maybe not a wedding dress but why not get a lovely normal dress. What size are you? Shape we can make suggestions for you and you don't have to do a thing :) but if your wearing jeans because its easier than shopping then let us do it for you- especially if the guests are likely to be dressier than you- it's your day :)

Thanks Orchid, I didn't think I was grumpy but I've upset a couple of people so it didn't come across right.

I second - third? Going to Selfridges or Donna Ida. You'd definitely find something to suit in a single trip, which if you don't have much time would be perfect plus the sales assistants will be super helpful. I'd also look at Diesel in addition to he brands already mentioned - my favourite for jeans as I like scruffy distressed low slung jeans eternal teenager and they are the best by far for that IMO. Quite a few on the TK Maxx website atm but limited sizes, mostly tiny.

Hello again

Thanks for the suggestions. I will go to selfridges and Donna Ida (when I find out where it is!) as you suggest, just wanted to have some ideas before I venture in.

Here's the list everyone has suggested:

Gold sign (many votes)
J brand (many votes)
VB
Hoolihans
Guess
Nobody cult skinnies (many votes)
The outnet
Donna Ida (many votes)
NYDJ many votes)
Seven for all mankind (many votes)
Fornarina
Paige
Hoxton high waisted
Jimmy jimmy
Skyline

To those of you who suggested dresses, thanks but definitely want something I can keep and wear often. I do wear dresses but not that often.

And pato don't worry, no offence taken. It's not that I want to look scruffy, I just want to buy some special nice jeans. I've just had two pregnancies close together and none of my clothes for any more (I lost weight!) including my lovely old jeans.

Great to hear from others who got married in jeans too. Thanks everyone. SmileSmileSmile

My shopping day is in a few weeks. I'll let you know how I get on.

I wore a pair of Jane Norman jeans for my wedding Grin

Also, hiking boots. It was amazing and romantic and I nearly cried all the way through.

Buy some jeans that will make your bum look lush and enjoy. Thanks

No advice on Jeans but I think getting married in something you would usually wear (but even better) makes great sense. I have a friend who got married in Jeans and a white top with a huge white rose in her beautiful hair. Perfect!

My sister wore some black velvet type cord jeans for her wedding. With a beautiful white fitted jacket and gorgeous hair plus Hunter wellies because it snowed. Grin No bride could have been more beautiful.

Don't wear a T-shirt with your special jeans OP, wear a pretty top. And re. the smears - just put aside an hour or forty-five minutes before you go to the registry to get dressed and do your hair/make-up. Or not, if you don't want to wear make-up, but my point is take one hour to have time to yourself and have a cup of tea and get dressed on your own. Let DH or a friend wrangle the babies. I had a 15-month old when I got married so I do know what it's like!

What about this one -- it's called Love Swing Wink
