Leather shoes going mouldy!

My flat is rather damp and I've just taken some shoes out of their box only to find the soles and part of the stitching has gone mouldy. What, if anything, can I do about this? Storing them higher up isn't an option unfortunately. Is there an anti-mould shoe spray?

Oh this is happening to all my boots at the moment and I have never had it before.

Weird.

sorry no answers and our flat isn't even particularly damp.

Argh- me too!

I've cleaned it off with baby wipes and have ordered some of those vacuum bag things. No idea if that'll work.

It's really annoying - most of my shoes are fine but a few that have been in storage since last winter have come out with a fine coating of mould. It seems to disappear without any trace when I brush them, but the soles seem particularly badly hit. Some suede boots have succumbed too. I suppose the answer is to wear them all a bit more, get them ventilated?

I've had this in the past, with shoes that were stored in a wardrobe that was on an outside wall (previous house)

Something about wardrobes being on outside walls, being more likely to end up mouldy/fusty.

I've got shoes stored under the bed, and they're fine.
