He hasn't got oily skin. He's prone to spots (not many) but is mega blackheady on his nose.

I've bought him loads of different things (which would probably work if the little bugger actually USED them Hmm ) but it's not working.

He has a loop tool but won't use it.
I've bought him cleansing pads (Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel) and the night gel.
Other boots (Clearskin IIRC)

The nose strips work to a degree but I think they pull the tiny hairs out too ,

He doesn't need to see the GP it's not acne.

But is there something maybe with a salacylic acid or something?

I'm out shopping tomorrow or Saturday.
I need to get him SOMETHING

TIA

Quinoderm works like a charmSmile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2013 21:23

Ooh I just looked on their website.
The wash and the dual-action cream could be the answer.

Thanks

Nurtogena, my sister is a beauty therapist and recommended this to my friends 12 year old dd who was suffering with blackheads, just a face wash to use in the shower def has helped her a lot and reasonably priced

Marylou2 · 01/11/2013 01:40

As you say with boys/men you can buy all the stuff you like it's getting them to use it that's the problem. La Roche Posay Effaclar is fantastic on hormonal skin. Usually on offer in Boots. Clarisonic also fab at getting to grips with blocked pores and certainly worth the initial outlay.

RaisingArizona · 01/11/2013 07:07

Could try the Dermaflannel. Bravura or cheaper ones from Amazon (which I think are better than Bravura).

Hey op. Short term this won't help but GO TO THE DOCTOR. S2 has acne and I went and got some drugs. First ones didn't do anything. Second lot did but took 8 weeks to kick in.

Now skin perfect. I think we tend to be reluctant to use medication but it's really moved on.

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 07:28

Plus if he won't use it why are you buying more S2 blackheads went too btw

chartreuse · 01/11/2013 08:57

Ds1's skin has been transformed by my La Roche Posay Effaclar K. We both use the nutrogena pink grapefruit exfoliating cleanser (smells delicious). He was very spotty before, beautiful clear skin now.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/11/2013 09:03

LordP - I honestly don't think the GP would entertain him.

I was very lucky as a teen and didn't have acne but my DSis did.
My son definately doesn't have acne. The couple of spots he has (mainly where his hairline is) are small.

It's the blackheads that's the issue.

And I have to lob the wipes tub at him morning and night "Teeth and Cleanse" .
But I have been known to pin him down before he has a shower to use my Philosophy scrub on him. (But that doesn't even shift them)

Life as a teen is hard enough, I don't want him turning round in 5 years and saying "Mum why did you let me walk about like a right plukey get" ?

reading with interest.

my poor ds has the same problem...he's only 12 but pretty grown up looking already.

his blackheads are HORRIBLE on his nose. really visable.

Bought him some 'Simple' wipes but have to nag him to use them...tbh, they're not helping with the blackheads anyway.

LordPalmerston · 01/11/2013 09:31

GO TO THE DOCTOR

black heads count

darksparrow · 01/11/2013 09:34

You need Neutrogena blackhead eliminating triple action cleanser.

It really works. He can use as a wash and scrub but also leave on for a bit for extra effect. Seriously it is worth the £5 to try. There are lots of products in the range - make sure you get the one that says triple action!

Bonsoir · 01/11/2013 09:34

Blackheads: he needs to scrub at his nose/t-zone with a hot rough flannel (clean every time) and a good cleansing product morning and evening, preferably under a hot steamy shower.

chartreuse · 01/11/2013 09:41

Wipes are hopeless, you need a proper cleanser

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 01/11/2013 11:02

I use a clearasil face wash on ds,it's a scrubby one and is fab.His skin starts looking better the following morning.I'll go check the name of it in a mo

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 01/11/2013 11:06

Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Scrub is the name.Says visibly clearer skin in as little as 12 hours and that's very true (ds does it at night)

Has salicylic acid in it and is fab.Clears his spots and blackheads

chimchar · 01/11/2013 12:31

Great. Thanks everyone. Will go shopping later.

goodasitgets · 01/11/2013 13:02

He needs to moisturise too. If you start using clearasil etc and stripping his skin it will just churn out loads more oil and then develop more spots
You may have to pin him down for that Grin

purplewithred · 01/11/2013 13:06

Nose strips for a blackheady teen - worked a treat on mine and I really enjoyed helping them with them

Raddy · 01/11/2013 18:21

I found big blackheads in my teen's ears the other day! He showers at least once per day & is in a swimming club, so I don't think it's a grime issue.

How the heck do you get rid of them? I did gouge them with my fingernail for a brief interlude before he ran off.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 01/11/2013 18:51

You can use a remover tool- I got one from the Body Shop. Oh so satisfying when the buggers come out.

The quinoderm works by preventing the pores getting blocked. I found by having the odd facial where I asked the beautician to get as much crap out of my skin as possible meant that my skin was clean and clear. The quinoderm facewash worked so that I never became as spotty again. Apart from when I was pregnant and my back was covered Hmm. I did not glow Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2014 22:16

OK, this is a bit of an old thread but I've revived it.

I bought him Quinoderm, it nearly took the poor little things skin off (he had a reaction on his face when he used T-Gel to shampoo his hair so I think he is quite sensitive after all)

The strips - Biore and Boots, nothing. Superdrug had the best results.

I bought him Neutogena clear liquid to use with a cotton wool pad at night and Biore Self Heating Mask or Clean and Clear Exfoliating Wash for in the shower.
I've got a pump top bottle of Cetaphil which DD can use, DS can too.

I was lurking round the "Skincare" bit in Boots to see what the young people bought (oh dear that sounds a bit weird) and got him some Biore Deep Pore charcoal cleanser.
This might sound like a load of products but he has some in his room, some in the downstairs loo where his toothbrush lives, and some in the bathroom. So no excuse not to use.

And I pinned the little blighter down in a Half Nelson and the metal loop thing. 100% improved (he admits it grudgingly) so hopefully he's inspired to take care of his skin now.
