Which would you go for in oak

Classic bayswater?
Mini bayswater?
Alexa?

I dont usually carry a large bag, normally a small messenger (dont like mulberry messengers though)
But if im ever gonna get one, should i go for the bigger option

You should indeed just be able to take it back to the store - or call the customer service (the number is on their website). They might ask for proof of purchase, so if you still have it, it's worth bringing.

Regarding the quality and not being careful with the bags, I find it strange that a bag I've used for 10 years, brought it to Uni, used it as a weekend bag and have used it for everything every single day for years looks better right now than a bag I've had for a couple of years but have used roughly once a month for short trips into town or for shopping, the bag has never been full, has never had heavy or pointy things in, has never been standing on the floor or ground, but always been on a chair or in a cupboard.
I am generally very careful with my things, so I don't think the faults are caused by me not being careful enough. If it is indeed the case, I'd like a course in using a zip, as it seems that the ones from Mulberry peel when I use them. Strangely enough, I have never experienced that from any other brand - not even much cheaper ones.

Thanks - worth a go, then, and £110 isn't too bad. I have the receipt somewhere.

AlexaChelsea · 29/10/2013 19:05

Brilliant, I shall do this. I do have the receipt so that might help. Thanks

I've had loads of Mulberry bags over the years - like vibbe I have found the quality to be on the wane. My first, an oak Roxanne, was indestructible. I sold it though as it was too heavy. My Roxanne tote is very worn at the corners after 5 years, my Bayswater is worn at the handles but it is a delicate leather, my Hayden is doing well but has had fairly minimal use, my Angelica is stained from rain water. The purse I got at Christmas has lost colour on the metal hardware and even my keyring has broken!

That said I think designer bag quality is decreasing immensely. The piping came through on my Alexander Wang after 6 weeks!!

AmberNectarine · 30/10/2013 00:40

But anyway in answer to your question I vote Alexa.

I sold my classic bayswater last year for less than £300. Oops !!! Then again I found it too heavy. Out of the three, definitely that one. It will age brilliantly.

I've got a Daria - does both messenger style and over shoulder handbag style by switching the clip on the handle. I really like it - might work for you?

I've just ebayed my alexa as i felt it was looking dated. Agree that they look like someone sat on them. That always annoyed me as I prefer a more structured look.

Loewe all the way now for me. I'm looking to the older mainland European brands with a heritage of expert craftsmanship.

If that means Hermes then so be it. However I would never carry a Birkin or Kelly. Too many of them about and Hermes have more interesting designs anyway.

Check out Bottega Veneta OP. They have gorgeous designs too.

Posted too soon- Mulberry have positioned themselves to sell to the powerful Chinese customer and to the Middle Eastern markets too.

Many of these customers buy so many bags that longevity doesn't really matter to them. If you can afford to buy twenty bags a year, you are probably not going to carry each one more than once every few months.

FakeAngel · 30/10/2013 07:57

I used to LOVE my Mulberrys but yes, sad to say the quality has gone right downhill. Oh for the days of thick Darwin leather (and being able to buy a Bays for under £500).

I'd go with mini Bays - I loved my Ledbury but sold it because the lack of hands-free option drove me nuts. It's a good size - you can fit an awful lot more in it than you think - and would be really versatile too, with the option to go shoulder/cross body or handheld. It's a lovely little bag but I would be wary re Mulberry quality.

Have you thought of looking at pre-loved for classic Darwin bags? A lot of them are beautiful condition, almost new. But be sure to get them authenticated at the Purse Forum before you bid/buy.
